About The Position

TechCentral, located on the 2nd floor of the Hart Memorial Library in Kissimmee, FL, is seeking a creative, enthusiastic, technology-minded Makerspace Technician to help patrons bring their projects from dreams to reality. Under the supervision of the Outreach Services Manager, the ideal candidate will have hands-on experience with low-tech and high-tech tools and programs, including 3D Printing, sewing machines, photography, and audio recording. The candidate should be artistic and crafty, comfortable learning new technology, delivering training and leading tours, and possess strong troubleshooting and customer service skills to ensure the space runs smoothly. Requirements

  • High school diploma required.
  • Bachelor's degree preferred.
  • 2 years of experience with makerspace technology, technology instruction, or other creative-based work.
  • Public library experience working with technology and the general public preferred.
  • Experience in planning and executing programs and events.
  • Strong writing, presentation, and public speaking skills.
  • Excellent instructional and customer service skills.
  • Familiarity with tools and equipment associated with a makerspace required: Sound recording - equipment and software 3D printing - programming and managing Electronics and robotics Sewing and Cricut machines Graphic design software - Adobe Creative Cloud and free-web-based Videography and photography Virtual reality Musical instruments Memory Lab equipment, such as VCRs, scanners, film, stereo components, etc. Apple technology, including iMacs and iPads
  • Ability to exercise independent judgment, critical thinking and decision-making skills
  • Bilingual speaking is a plus.
  • Lift/push up to 25 pounds and occasionally up to 35 pounds. of heavy boxes, books, and equipment; work in confined spaces; walk; bend; stoop; reach; and climb.

Responsibilities

  • Foster a welcoming, safe, inclusive, and organized environment in TechCentral that encourages patrons to explore their creativity and develop new skills.
  • Design, initiate, plan, host, and conduct programs and activities in TechCentral for the public, with a strong focus on serving older teens and adults.
  • Provide guidance and support to patrons, assisting them with project ideas, troubleshooting, and technical skills using TechCentral equipment and software.
  • Perform general troubleshooting and routine maintenance of TechCentral equipment and software while liaising with IT professionals on more advanced troubleshooting and maintenance of equipment.
  • Provide instruction to patrons and staff, both one-on-one and in group settings, during programs, open lab hours, and scheduled reservations.
  • Provide training and ensure compliance with safety and health procedures for safe usage of TechCentral equipment and tools.
  • Represent the Library at community events, showcasing TechCentral's equipment and opportunities and actively engage in outreach to promote the makerspace resources.
  • Monitor supply levels and recommend more as necessary.
  • Stay up to date on trends in creative library spaces and recommend improvements to the TechCentral space, website, training, etc.
  • Compile statistics for TechCentral on a monthly basis.
  • Follow all Osceola Library System policies and procedures.
  • Perform other duties and assignments as required.
