About The Position

The Temporary Makerspace Technician supports the daily operation, maintenance, and safety of the maker space environment by providing technical assistance, overseeing equipment usage, and facilitating access to tools and resources. This role ensures users can safely and effectively engage in hands-on learning, prototyping, and creative exploration, while maintaining a well-organized and functional workspace. The Summer Makerspace Tech will work closely with the Makerspace staff, technology department, and other Liliʻuokalani Center (LC) and Liliʻuokalani Trust (LT) teammates including but not limited to the IT department, facilities, operations, and ʻOlino Pathways teams to ensure high quality creation and productions as well as overall maintenance of our state-of-the-art spaces. This is a temporary role designed to support the technology department with the implementation of their summer programming. There is the possibility of an extension post-summer.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent experience required.
  • At least 1 year of experience in youth work, maker space, lab, workshop, or educational tech setting.
  • Proficiency with maker space equipment and tools including but not limited to 3D printers, laser cutters, CNC routers, vinyl cutters, soldering tools, handtools, and power tools.
  • Familiarity with design and modeling software such as OnShape, Solidworks, and/or Adobe Illustrator.
  • Basic electronic knowledge including circuits, breadboarding, and soldering.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills especially when working with youth and educators.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a dynamic, project-based learning environment.
  • Valid driver’s license, clean traffic abstract.
  • TB clearance

  • Able to provide a welcoming environment for youth in the space

Responsibilities

  • In support of the Makerspace Manager, oversee daily operation of the maker Space, ensuring all tools and equipment are functional, clean, and safely accessible
  • Facilitates preventative maintenance on all equipment including but not limited to 3D printers, laser cutters, vinyl cutters, CNC machines, soldering stations, paint hood, and sewing machines.
  • Oversee training and support on proper and safe use of tools and equipment, providing one-on-one and group demonstrations as needed.
  • Support Maker Space Manager, program leaders, and teachers by assisting with project planning, setup, and execution of maker-related activities integrated into the curriculum.
  • Supervise maker space use, ensuring adherence to safety protocols and respectful sharing of space and materials.
  • Implement and enforce safety procedures, including personal protective equipment (PPE), tool-specific rules, and emergency protocols.
  • Prepares a variety of documents and reports (e.g. maintenance, budget, daily activity, daily program content, etc.) for the purpose of providing written support and/or conveying information.
  • Provide program coverage as necessary
  • Help prepare materials for summer programming.
  • Assist instructors with executing summer programming
  • Contribute to the success of the team by being flexible, collaborative, and proactive in learning new skills.
  • Provide transportation support for staff, youth, and families as needed for official business.
  • Participate in professional development, training, and team-building initiatives.
  • Support broader Trust and LC efforts by contributing to cross-functional projects and new initiatives.
  • Be available for flexible scheduling to support programming, events and strategic needs, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
  • Other duties as assigned by Maker Space Manager or Director of Creative Technology
