About The Position

The Stew Makerspace, a collaboration between Grinnell College’s Wilson Center and the Grinnell Area Arts Council, is hiring student Makerspace Monitors for Fall 2026. This space offers a variety of studios including textile, ceramics, wood, metal, and tech, equipped with machines like sewing machines, embroidery machines, vinyl cutters, laser engravers, 3D printers, and 3D scanners. This role requires 5-9 hours per week, primarily in the evenings and weekends, with shifts typically lasting 2 hours. Monitors will also attend a weekly skill-building session or staff meeting. The position involves monitoring the makerspace, ensuring patron safety, maintaining the space, checking patrons in and out, enforcing safety protocols, providing equipment training, performing machinery maintenance, keeping the space clean and organized, and reporting on usage.

Nice To Haves

  • Basic proficiency in fiber crafts
  • Basic proficiency in ceramics

  • Familiarity with common woodshop tools
  • Experience training others
