About The Position

NGHS Foundation is the philanthropic arm of Northeast Georgia Health System. NGHS Foundation is a volunteer driven and supported program. The Major Gifts Officer (MGO) develops, maintains and manages a portfolio of 50-70 prospects. MGO will be responsible for securing major gifts to the Foundation of $10,000 and higher. MGO will create and maintain written strategies for managed prospects in their portfolio resulting in the eventual solicitation of major gifts to the Foundation. In partnership with the Foundation Donor Relations Officer, the MGO will provide guidance for the creation of solicitation proposals for potential gifts and developing associated story, signage, recognition and dedication events where appropriate for major gift donors. The MGO manages relationships with potential donors and existing donors to ensure successful fundraising. MGO follows the NGHS Core Values which are essential to this position and the Foundation's work to develop long-term relationships and partnerships to promote the community's support of NGHS, and fulfills the essential tasks and responsibilities specific to this position as identified in the job description.

Requirements

  • Minimum of three (3) - five (5) years direct fundraising, preferably in a healthcare, education or other non-profit setting.
  • Other related experience in similar industries with transferrable skills will be considered.
  • Previous business development, sales, marketing or related experience will be considered.
  • Proficient with Windows and Microsoft Suite products including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Working knowledge of Blackbaud's Raisers Edge or other fundraising/donor management systems.
  • Base knowledge of the principles of individual fundraising and relationship development.
  • Communicates effectively, including active listening as well as strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Adept in interpersonal communication and relationship building.
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to coordinate, prioritize and manage multiple tasks and responsibilities.
  • Ability to be self-directed and work under pressure in a fast-paced, goal oriented environment.
  • Strives for continuous improvement, adapts to change, always seeks to be better tomorrow than today.
  • Must have the capacity to work sympathetically with individuals possessing many different points of view.

Responsibilities

  • Develops, cultivates, and manages relationships with a portfolio of 50-70 major gift prospects ($10,000+).
  • Creates and maintains written strategies for prospects to secure major gifts.
  • Partners with the Foundation Donor Relations Officer to develop solicitation proposals, stories, signage, recognition, and dedication events.
  • Manages relationships with potential and existing donors to ensure successful fundraising.
  • Follows NGHS Core Values to develop long-term relationships and partnerships.
  • Assists with NGHS Foundation's efforts to develop philanthropic support by identifying and cultivating donor prospects.
  • Develops strategic partnerships with physician and clinician champions to identify and cultivate Grateful Patient prospects.
  • Represents NGHS Foundation at community events.
  • Supports Director of Development with major gift activities.
  • Provides input for public announcements, communication plans, donor stories, signage, recognition, and dedication events.
  • Maintains accurate and up-to-date donor and prospect database records and prospect tracking.
  • Creates written strategies for each prospect in the portfolio for cultivation, education, and solicitation.
  • Meets weekly with Director of Development and Development Team to evaluate and report on major gift progress and prospect status.
  • Participates in short and long-range planning activities to develop and implement fundraising goals and objectives.
  • Facilitates evaluation and documentation of progress toward business goals and objectives.
  • Develops and updates FY goals and objectives focused on solicitation and closing of major gifts.
  • Attends weekly Development Team meetings and participates in special meetings, activities, brainstorming, and planning with Gift Officers.
  • Works with Foundation team to update policy and procedure manual related to major gifts and Foundation standards.
  • Maintains a working knowledge of Raiser's Edge fundraising software for prospect tracking and reporting.
  • Enters information summarizing contacts with prospects and donors immediately following meetings.
  • Works collaboratively with Foundation staff and other NGHS staff on educational programs, projects, special events, ground breakings, and public grand openings.
  • Provides input on content related to Foundation activity, including major gifts, for various publications.
  • Assists in the development of campaign materials such as case statements, DVDs, brochures, programs, and press releases.
  • Maintains a broad knowledge of the purpose, importance, and status of projects, programs, individuals, and organizations connected to the Foundation.
  • Participates in the ongoing evaluation of the effectiveness of development and community relations programs, seeking improvement and new support sources.
  • Meets mandatory education and physical requirements within specified deadlines.
  • Contributes to the department's compliance with regulatory, DNV, mandatory education, and similar requirements.
