About The Position

Buffalo Toronto Public Media is seeking a Major Gifts Associate (MGA) to identify and sustain new donors, expand the revenue pool for various projects, facilitate relationships with individual donors, provide friendly and courteous service to contributors, and initiate and maintain relationships with other non-profit organizations for project collaborations. This position is hybrid, combining remote and in-office work. The MGA will manage a portfolio of approximately 125 existing donors and 125 new prospects, developing fundraising strategies for them. Key responsibilities include developing relationships with existing donors, soliciting individual gifts, increasing existing gifts, and stewarding members. The role involves initiating and participating in in-person cultivation and solicitation meetings, as well as through written proposals and digital communications. The MGA will be responsible for accurate and timely documentation of donor contracts and updates in the prospect database, participating in department cultivation events, and promoting BTPM programs and resources. They will use relevant technologies (e.g., CRM, Canva, MS Office) to support department activities and measure fundraising results, and collaborate with various departments to enhance fundraising activities. Additionally, the MGA will initiate and maintain relationships with external non-profit organizations and stakeholders for project collaborations.

Requirements

  • Minimum of associate's degree in business, marketing or a related field
  • Minimum of two (2) years of fundraising, professional nonprofit development experience (related internship experience is acceptable)
  • Outstanding written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to connect with multiple individuals, persuade donors, prepare compelling proposals for individuals and funding organizations
  • Demonstrated track record of proven success in securing individual gifts, including annual fund support, major, and planned gifts
  • Demonstrated skills in effective relationship management with high-level and mid-level supporters
  • Flexible to meet changing and dynamic aspects of donor fundraising
  • Must have ability to safeguard confidential and sensitive donor and organizational information
  • Strong interpersonal and relationship-building skills in all forms - face-to-face, virtually, via phone/email, etc.
  • Demonstrated proficiency with fundraising databases and use of various computer programs, including Microsoft Office; ability to learn new technologies quickly and assist with user adoption and support
  • Must be able to work a flexible schedule to meet deadlines and donor needs/availability
  • Must have valid driver license and reliable transportation to meet travel requirements, including the ability to travel internationally to and from Canada
  • Exceptional organization and time management skills; ability to meet deadlines and prioritize
  • Comfortable and effective working both independently and in team-based environments
