About The Position

Southampton Hospital Foundation seeks a highly accomplished Major Gift Officer to join the organization at a defining moment of growth and transformation. As the philanthropic partner to Stony Brook Southampton Hospital, part of Stony Brook Medicine, the Foundation is undertaking a significant expansion of its programs and preparing for a historic capital campaign expected to exceed $200 million. This effort will expand clinical services, enhance facilities, and strengthen access to high-quality healthcare across the East End. This is a visible and impactful role for a fundraising professional who thrives in a relationship-driven, mission-focused environment and is motivated by the opportunity to help shape a historic campaign. The Major Gift Officer will play a critical role in building a robust pipeline of leadership and principal gifts, deepening donor engagement, and advancing a culture of philanthropy aligned with institutional priorities. POSITION SUMMARY: Reporting to the President of the Southampton Hospital Foundation, the newly created Major Gift Officer position will manage a select portfolio of high-capacity donors and prospects, with a focus on securing six- and seven-figure philanthropic commitments. The role will partner closely with Foundation leadership, Board members, physicians, and senior hospital executives to design and execute donor-centered engagement plans that connect donor interests with defined funding opportunities across the institution.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree: Masters preferred.
  • 7+ years of major gift fundraising experience.
  • Demonstrated success securing five- and six-figure gifts.
  • Experience working with boards and senior leadership.
  • Demonstrated success working with volunteers and Board members.
  • Healthcare or academic environment preferred.
  • Capital campaign experience strongly preferred.
  • Ability to engage donors effectively and connect their interests with institutional priorities.
  • Exceptional relationship-building skills.
  • Thoughtful and disciplined approach to planning and execution.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • High level of professionalism and discretion.
  • Planned giving experience preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage a portfolio of approximately 75–100 high-capacity donors and prospects.
  • Develop and execute individualized cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship plans that align donor interests with institutional priorities.
  • Build and maintain a disciplined, forward-looking pipeline of leadership and principal gift opportunities.
  • Advance donors through the full giving cycle—from qualification and cultivation to solicitation and stewardship—using a disciplined, relationship-driven approach.
  • Partner with leadership and Board members to strengthen donor engagement.
  • Collaborate with physicians to develop compelling, donor-centered cases for support.
  • Represent the Foundation at key events and engagements.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date donor records and activity tracking.
