About The Position

This employee is responsible for a variety of scheduled and unscheduled maintenance support functions in an institutional environment. These functions may include both preventative and repair services requiring carpentry, masonry, plumbing, electrical and locksmith knowledge. This position is also responsible to assist, when requested, with janitorial duties and when the Janitor/Maintenance employees are absent. Lifting is required.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Exhibits the appropriate level of decision-making, planning and communicative skills.
  • Must have a good general knowledge of industrial cleaning procedures and ability to operate various pieces of equipment such as carpet extractor, floor buffer, vacuum cleaner, snow blower, lawn equipment, etc.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.
  • Ability to take oral and written instructions.
  • Must have good moral and ethical character.
  • Must have a Criminal History Record check, a Drug Test and a Child Abuse History clearance prior to employment.
  • Must have a physical examination report from a licensed physician.
  • Must be able to lift heavy cartons and equipment.
  • The ability to work in close proximity to residents in a secure detention and shelter setting is required.
  • Heavy lifting and strenuous labor is common to assigned tasks.
  • Ability to work harmoniously with public and staff.

Nice To Haves

  • Trade schooling, certifications preferred or comparable combination of education and experience may be substituted.
  • A minimum of (1) year prior experience in a trade or skilled labor position with emphasis on carpentry, masonry, plumbing and electrical skills is beneficial.

Responsibilities

  • Routine repair work for a residential facility including but not limited to repairing locks, curtain rods, equipment, faucet leaks, minor plumbing problems, headboards, counters and carpentry, damaged furniture, and electrical work.
  • Capable of operating a wide variety of both industrial and commercial equipment.
  • Performs minor repairs to recreational equipment and retrieves sporting equipment from one-story roof.
  • Must be available, on an on-call basis, for building emergencies.
  • Cleans all classrooms and replenishes supplies.
  • Snow removal and light landscaping duties as needed.
  • Assists in removing trash and debris from grounds.
  • Unclog rainspouts and gutters.
  • Assists food service staff in unloading deliveries.
