About The Position

Responsible for the effective, efficient, and safe maintenance, renovation, and upkeep of parish buildings and grounds. This role involves performing basic repairs, implementing preventive maintenance schedules, and ensuring the grounds are neat and presentable. The Maintenance Worker will also be responsible for safety compliance, maintaining equipment, and assisting with various tasks as needed.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent or higher.
  • Minimum 3 years of experience in building and equipment maintenance and repair, or an acceptable equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Reliable transportation.
  • Valid driver's license.
  • Valid vehicle insurance.
  • Ability to communicate with various levels of staff.
  • Ability to safely work with ladders, equipment, and chemicals.
  • Ability to work in heights and close quarters.
  • Good eye-hand coordination and flexibility.
  • Must be able to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends, to assist with gatherings and events.
  • Complete a safe environment course.
  • Pass criminal background check.

Responsibilities

  • Provide prompt response to requests and issues.
  • Perform basic carpentry, drywall, painting, plumbing, and electrical tasks.
  • Complete Work Order Forms submitted to maintenance personnel.
  • Perform repairs or maintenance on incoming work orders to ensure proper and prompt completion.
  • Implement a preventive schedule for key systems and seasonal tasks (e.g., HVAC, water heater maintenance, smoke detector testing, fire extinguisher checks, gutter cleaning).
  • Set up and organize campus hall and Annex meeting rooms.
  • Assist in quarterly parish clean-up volunteer opportunities.
  • Keep parish grounds neat and presentable, including mowing, leaf blowing, trash pick-up, tree care, hardscape maintenance, and flowerbed/plant/grass care.
  • Safely and efficiently use heavy and light equipment, machinery, and hand tools (e.g., mowers, trimming equipment, pressure washers).
  • Safely use chemicals.
  • Perform tree care, hardscape, and general landscape maintenance tasks.
  • Dig and plant trees, shrubs, and flowers.
  • Mow and edge lawns to maintain a neat appearance.
  • Utilize hand tools and power tools for landscaping projects.
  • Demonstrate mechanical knowledge for equipment operation.
  • Ensure compliance with health and safety standards and industry codes.
  • Keep the shop organized and in good working order.
  • Perform/arrange routine equipment preventive maintenance checks and notify the facility manager when equipment needs replacement.
  • Respond to facility alarms, alerts, and system failures and report to the supervisor.
  • Maintain current knowledge and skills required for the job, attending workshops and classes as needed.
  • Maintain membership/affiliation with appropriate professional organizations.
  • Help with the development and implementation of procedures to address problems within the facilities, consistent with parish and Diocese guidelines.
  • Adhere to safety training and protocols daily and take precautionary measures to ensure the safety and well-being of self and others.
  • Protect the confidentiality of any information or material obtained in the service of the organization.
  • Adhere to the Code of Conduct and the Faith and Moral Policy.
  • Take a solution-oriented approach in interactions and undertakings, promoting collaboration and commitment to the Mission and Vision of the organization.
  • Perform any other duties assigned by the priest or parochial vicar.
