About The Position

Maintenance will be responsible for regular maintenance and upkeep of all Arc owned/leased facilities. You will perform preventive and emergency repairs as needed. Under the direction of the Director of Facilities, you will ensure that all agency facilities comply with regulatory, fire, OSHA, and health safety requirements. You will adhere to the policies established by The Arc Eastern Connecticut Board of Directors whose goal is to maintain full community inclusion and integration for all individuals who are supported by The Arc Eastern Connecticut.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED (General Equivalency Diploma).
  • Minimum of two years’ experience.
  • Valid driver’s license, reliable vehicle, and insurance for duration of employment.
  • Must possess basic competency in English (verbal and written).
  • Broad-based experience in the following trades: Carpentry, plumbing, electrical, drywall, painting, landscaping, appliance repair, snow removal, roofing, and flooring.
  • Must be able to lift, push/pull a minimum of 50 pounds.
  • Required to participate in lifts, transfers, and behavioral or physical intervention when necessary.
  • May be exposed to risk of injury or exposure to occupational health hazards.

Nice To Haves

  • Will be required to obtain pertinent certifications throughout the duration of his/her employment.

Responsibilities

  • Provide in-depth monthly inspections for each residential facility and forward a progress report to the supervisor.
  • Clean gutters as needed.
  • Assist with landscaping as needed.
  • Install and repair appliances as needed.
  • Assemble and move furniture.
  • Perform general plumbing, electrical, carpentry (unlicensed work) as needed. Schedule licensed personnel as necessary.
  • Fix and replace ceiling tiles.
  • Patch roof as necessary.
  • Install and replace closet doors.
  • Repair broken windows and doors.
  • Repair and install internal and external lighting.
  • Perform interior and exterior maintenance as needed.
  • Apply stain to decking as needed.
  • Perform snow removal, sanding, and shoveling at designated Arc facilities in the event of inclement weather. Ensure that all walkways are clear and free of ice hazards.
  • Meet with Fire Marshal for annual inspections at the homes.
  • Perform other duties as directed.
  • Comply with OSHA safety regulations.
  • Use personal vehicle as necessary/maintaining driver’s license, insurance and personal vehicle.
  • Demonstrate a positive work ethic.
  • Work with limited supervision. Keep supervisor informed and updated regarding on-going projects.
  • Advocate for and protect participants’ rights in accordance with Arc policies and procedures.
  • Treat all individuals in an age-appropriate manner, with respect and dignity, and encourage opportunities that promote choice.
  • Maintain a professional and positive attitude when dealing with program participants, staff, families, the public and outside representatives.
  • Work with a spirit of cooperation with all departments.
  • Carry out all job responsibilities in a professional manner.
  • Maintain attendance. Adhere to policies on attendance, days of absence, and illness.
  • Participate in all DDS and The Arc Eastern CT trainings as required by policy.
