About The Position

The Maintenance Worker I perform entry-level maintenance and repair tasks, assisting in the upkeep of hospital facilities. This position focuses on general maintenance, basic carpentry, and repair work under supervision. The role contributes to a safe and well-maintained environment for staff, patients, and visitors. On-call duty is required on a rotating schedule to ensure availability for emergency maintenance requests outside of regular working hours. The Maintenance Worker II performs a wide range of advanced maintenance, repair, and carpentry tasks independently to support the hospital’s operations. This role requires proficiency in general maintenance, steam boiler operation, electrical systems, and carpentry. The Maintenance Worker II ensures that hospital facilities remain functional and safe, adhering to all safety and compliance standards. On-call duty is required on a rotating schedule to ensure availability for emergency maintenance requests outside of regular working hours. The Senior Maintenance Worker leads and performs a wide variety of complex maintenance tasks, including carpentry, electrical, and boiler-related work. As a senior member of the maintenance team, this role involves diagnosing and resolving advanced technical issues, overseeing maintenance projects, and training junior staff. The Senior Maintenance Worker plays a key role in ensuring the functionality, safety, and compliance of the hospital's infrastructure. On-call duty is required on a rotating schedule to ensure availability for emergency maintenance requests outside of regular working hours.

Requirements

At least one year of experience in maintenance, repair, or related fields.
High School Diploma or GED.
Valid California driver’s license with a clean driving record.
Forklift Operator Certification within the first six months of employment.
Minimum of three years at NIHD as a Maintenance Worker I or four years in healthcare maintenance.
Minimum of three years of experience working with steam boilers.
Experience in operating, maintaining, and repairing boiler systems.
Experience in performing electrical, plumbing, HVAC, and carpentry-related repairs.
High School Diploma or GED.
Valid California driver’s license with a clean driving record.
OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 Certification.
Forklift Operator Certification (provided by the District within six months of employment if not already certified).
Completion of NIHD Maintenance Worker I and II. Or five years of healthcare maintenance experience.
Experience diagnosing and troubleshooting electrical, HVAC, and plumbing systems.
High School Diploma or GED.
Valid California driver’s license with a clean driving record.
Forklift Operator Certification (provided by the District within six months of employment if not already certified).

Nice To Haves

Additional certifications in areas such as HVAC, electrical, or plumbing
7+ years of experience in maintenance, with a strong focus on healthcare or hospital environments.
Proven track record in leading large-scale maintenance projects.
Completion of a vocational or technical training program in electrical, HVAC, or carpentry.
Additional certifications in related fields (e.g., HVAC, plumbing, additional electrical certifications).
OSHA 30 Certification.

Responsibilities

Assist with general maintenance tasks including repairs, installations, and minor equipment troubleshooting under the supervision of senior staff.
Perform basic carpentry tasks, such as repairing doors, windows, and minor structural repairs, ensuring hospital standards are maintained.
Carry out basic repairs and preventive maintenance on hospital infrastructure and equipment.
Maintain cleanliness and organization of work areas, including safe storage of tools and materials.
Adhere to safety standards and regulations to ensure the well-being of staff and visitors.
Collaborate with team members to complete projects and respond to maintenance requests efficiently.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Perform general maintenance and repair tasks independently, including electrical, plumbing, and HVAC work.
Conduct more complex carpentry tasks such as framing, drywall repair, and cabinet installation, ensuring quality workmanship and hospital standards.
Assist with the maintenance and repair of steam boilers and ensure proper operation of heating systems.
Document all work performed, including repairs and routine maintenance, in compliance with hospital and regulatory safety standards.
Troubleshoot equipment and system issues and perform repairs or recommend solutions as necessary.
Collaborate with other departments and contractors when necessary to ensure timely completion of projects.
Participate in regular safety training and contribute to improving workplace safety protocols.
Lead maintenance projects, particularly those involving carpentry, electrical systems, and boiler maintenance.
Diagnose, troubleshoot, and resolve complex maintenance issues, including carpentry, electrical, HVAC, and plumbing repairs.
Perform advanced carpentry tasks such as building and repairing structural components, cabinetry, and framing.
Operate, maintain, and repair steam boilers, ensuring compliance with hospital safety protocols.
Train and mentor junior maintenance staff, providing guidance on safety, efficiency, and technical skills.
Collaborate with other departments and contractors as necessary to complete complex projects.
Participate in regular safety training and maintain a high standard of workplace safety.
