About The Position

Under general supervision, performs various maintenance and repair activities within the City’s public works infrastructure. Work is performed in indoor or outdoor environments and may involve dangerous machinery, extreme weather conditions, potential physical harm, and hazardous chemicals. The employee may be required to work during emergencies to support public safety and the delivery or restoration of vital services.

Requirements

High school diploma or equivalent.
Two years of experience in public works maintenance and repair operations, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Valid Texas Driver’s License.
May require a Commercial Driver’s License.
Knowledge of City organization, operations, policies, and procedures; street maintenance and repair operations; concrete installation and repair methods; traffic control methods; small-engine repair; and business and personal computers and spreadsheet software.
Skill in diplomacy, fairness, firmness, and sound judgment; efficient customer service; applying City policies and procedures; operating light motorized equipment and vehicles; using hand and power tools; maintaining cooperative working relationships; and communicating effectively verbally and in writing.
May be required to lift and carry items weighing up to 90 pounds.

Responsibilities

Operates light motorized vehicles and equipment.
Repairs water and sewer cuts.
Repairs curbs, walkways, sidewalks, and driveways.
Repairs cave-ins.
Participates in concrete projects.
May provide work training to other employees.
Maintains and organizes tools and equipment.
May perform small-engine maintenance and repair.
Demonstrates courteous and cooperative behavior when interacting with citizens, visitors, and City staff; maintains confidentiality of work-related issues and City information.
Performs other duties as required or assigned.
May be required to work during emergencies to support public safety and the delivery or restoration of vital services.
