About The Position

Silverado Creek Seniors Community in Calgary is looking for a skilled, reliable, and capable Maintenance Worker to join their team. This role is responsible for the Preventative Maintenance Program, ensuring regular checks and accurate documentation. The position involves daily rounds to complete the maintenance schedule, monitor for plant concerns, and address potential issues. In winter, the role includes ensuring sidewalks and patios are clear of ice and snow. The Maintenance Worker will prioritize and fix items needing attention, perform repairs as able, and coordinate with outside contractors when necessary. Additional duties include putting away supplies, assisting residents with furniture moving, checking the safety of resident equipment upon move-in, inspecting rooms for mechanical hazards before resident move-in, investigating accidents, ensuring proper equipment maintenance, and taking precautions to ensure the safety of residents and others. The role also requires reporting near misses, injuries, accidents, or equipment damage to the Site Leader immediately and completing required reports, as well as correcting or reporting unsafe conditions and setting a good example.

Requirements

  • High School graduate
  • Building maintenance and/or relevant experience
  • Ability to communicate effectively and organize work.
  • Care for seniors
  • Physical ability to carry out the duties of the position.
  • Must be able to provide satisfactory proof of having successfully completed a Vulnerable Sector Check (VSC) as a condition of employment.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for the Preventative Maintenance Program, ensuring that regular checks are completed and documentation is accurate.
  • Works towards standardization of organizational documentation and reporting (eg. Maintenance Communication book).
  • Daily rounds of the Home, completing preventative maintenance schedule and searching and monitoring for any plant concerns and/or potential issues.
  • In winter – ensures sidewalks, patios, and all exit areas are clear of ice and snow.
  • Prioritizes items needing attention and fixing.
  • Repairs equipment/plant as able and necessary; refers to appropriate outside contractors as required for equipment and plant maintenance and /or repair and assists as necessary.
  • Puts away supplies as delivered.
  • Assists residents with moving of furniture when required.
  • Checks safety of resident equipment upon move-in (eg. CSA approved electrical equipment such as radios, shavers).
  • Ensures all rooms are inspected and free of mechanical hazards, prior to a resident moving in.
  • Investigates all accidents.
  • Ensures proper maintenance of equipment.
  • Responsible to take every reasonable precaution to protect the safety of residents, self, other workers and the general public.
  • Reports any near miss, injury, and accident or equipment damage to Site Leader immediately and completes required reports.
  • Corrects and/or reports unsafe conditions and sets a good example.
