About The Position

A Solid Waste Maintenance Worker supports the daily operations and upkeep of solid waste equipment, containers, and facilities to help ensure safe and efficient service delivery. The role helps extend equipment life, reduce downtime, and maintain clean, safe, and professional operations for employees and the community.

The position performs preventive maintenance and light mechanical repairs, assists with container delivery and upkeep, maintains facilities and supply inventory, and supports drivers and operations staff with equipment issues. It also completes work orders and maintenance logs, follows City policies and safety procedures, and performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent.

Responsibilities

• Perform preventive maintenance on solid waste vehicles and equipment, including greasing trucks, checking fluid levels, and inspecting components for wear.
• Conduct light mechanical repairs on solid waste vehicles, containers, carts, and related equipment.
• Deliver, repair, and replace residential refuse and recycling containers.
• Assist with installation, repair, and maintenance of dumpsters and other solid waste containers.
• Maintain cleanliness and organization of solid waste facilities, including shops, yards, and container storage areas.
• Pick up and dispose of litter and debris around solid waste facilities and service areas as needed.
• Assist drivers and operations staff with equipment issues in the field when necessary.
• Maintain inventory of commonly used maintenance supplies, such as grease, DEF, hydraulic hoses, wheels, lids, and small parts.
• Operate forklifts, skid steers, and other equipment to move containers and materials.
• Perform basic facility maintenance, such as minor plumbing repairs, pressure washing, painting, and general upkeep.
• Complete work orders and maintenance logs accurately and in a timely manner.
• Follow safety procedures and wear appropriate personal protective equipment.
• Report equipment problems, safety concerns, and maintenance needs to supervisors.
• Assist with special projects, clean-up events, and storm debris operations as assigned.
• Support overall solid waste operations to ensure reliable and efficient service to customers.
• Follow City policies, procedures, and safety guidelines.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
