About The Position

The City of Richmond Department of Public Works is seeking highly qualified candidates to fill multiple Maintenance Worker positions in the Street Cleaning Division. Selected candidates will be expected to work a scheduled shift of Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. The incumbent is responsible for performing routine grounds and maintenance duties and assisting with special projects and other required tasks.

Nice To Haves

  • High school diploma or GED preferred
  • No prior work experience
  • One (1) year of work experience preferred
  • An equivalent combination of training and experience (as approved by the department) may be used to meet the minimum qualifications of the classification

Responsibilities

  • Assisting maintenance personnel with Storm Water drainage
  • Operating hydraulic, pneumatic, and power hand tools
  • Using general hand tools for manual labor
  • Serving as a Flagger while working in Roadway; directing traffic and spotter drivers
  • Assisting with emergency maintenance programs related to weather: hurricane, rain, snow, and tornadoes
  • Cleaning building, equipment and vehicles to ensure good upkeep
  • Basin cleaning to include sewer and manhole
  • Securing worksite and manual labor with shovels, rakes, and other tools
  • Operating small engine equipment, chainsaw, target saw, plate tamper, jumping jack and cutting grass daily
