About The Position

The YMCA of Greater New York is seeking a Maintenance Worker/Porter for the Castle Hill YMCA. This role is responsible for cleaning and sanitizing assigned areas, including mopping, dusting, and trash removal. Additional duties include window washing, meeting set-up, pool cleaning, snow removal, groundskeeping, and other related responsibilities to ensure the branch is attractive and clean. The position operates related motorized and non-motorized equipment, records and reports needed repairs, and conducts repairs as directed. The Maintenance Worker/Porter ensures the building and property are secure during their shift and reports incidents and hazardous conditions. They also replace supplies like soap and paper towels, and may set up rooms for events, strip and wax floors, and shampoo rugs. This role requires adherence to standards set by various city departments (DOH, DOB, FDNY, HPD, and ECB) and YMCA Housekeeping Policies and Procedures. A flexible schedule, including nights and weekends, is required.

Requirements

High School diploma or equivalent required.
Minimum of one (1) year of related experience and increased area of responsibility.
Knowledge of cleaning methods and equipment, along with a basic understanding of the upkeep and care of equipment.
Understanding of light electrical, plumbing, painting, and carpentry.
Understanding of cleaning compounds and chemicals and their safe, efficient use.
Obtain the YMCA Housekeeping Certificate within one (1) year of attaining the position.

Responsibilities

Ensure the branch is attractive and clean by completing all duties listed on the daily schedule and maintaining the upkeep of the assigned area and equipment.
May perform wet and dust mopping, dusting, trash removal, recycling, window washing, pool cleaning, painting, vacuuming, seasonal activities dealing with lawn care and snow removal, and general cleaning.
Operates related motorized and non-motorized equipment.
Records and reports all needed repairs; conduct repairs as directed.
Ensures the branch building and property are secure during shift and reports incidents and hazardous conditions to the supervisor.
Replaces soap, paper towels, and other supplies.
May set up furniture and/or rooms for events.
Strip and wax the floors and shampoo rugs as needed.
Follow the standards of the DOH, DOB, FDNY, HPD, and ECB Departments.
Follow YMCA Housekeeping Policies and Procedures.
