About The Position

The City of Saratoga Springs is seeking a Maintenance IV – Parks technician. This is a full-time position within the Public Works Department, requiring approximately 40 hours per week. Under the direction of the Parks Superintendent, this role involves skilled work in landscape maintenance, and the upkeep of City parks, streetscapes, park facilities, and other City property. The position also serves as a primary "on-call" employee for after-hours emergencies related to their area of responsibility and for snow plowing. Additionally, this role provides first-line supervision to assigned Seasonal Maintenance - Parks employees.

Requirements

  • Graduation from high school or GED equivalent
  • Six (6) years previous experience in parks maintenance, landscaping, or related field.
  • Must possess a valid Utah CDL class A Driver's License, with a Tanker endorsement or be able to obtain one within 6 months.
  • Certified Playground Safety Inspector (CPSI)

  • Certified Utah Non-Commercial Pesticide Applicators License, category #3 Ornamental turf

Responsibilities

  • Provides front-line supervision to Seasonal Maintenance Workers - Parks on a project-by-project basis as assigned by Maintenance Supervisor – Parks, Parks Superintendent, or other City Management
  • Prioritizes and schedules work of assigned Seasonal Maintenance Workers - Parks, and then monitors work progress and employee performance for accuracy and effectiveness; reports any concerns to Maintenance Supervisor – Parks and/or Parks Superintendent
  • Perform all aspects of turf management, mowing, line trimming, edging, aerating, fertilizing, herbicide spraying, overseeding, and sod replacement using a variety of application equipment and techniques
  • Provide care and maintenance of trees, shrubs, and flowers (i.e. planting and proper pruning)
  • Inspect City parks, play grounds and facilities to identify special maintenance and care needs
  • Assist in the repair and maintenance of equipment, vehicles, and tools
  • Repair and installs irrigation systems
  • Remove graffiti and repairs vandalism of City property
  • Clear snow off park sidewalks, and other City walkways, and assist in snow removal of City streets and facilities.
  • Perform maintenance on snow removal equipment
  • Perform winter projects
  • Schedules and monitors irrigation system on city property
  • Perform other duties as assigned
