About The Position

The Maintenance Worker I is responsible for ensuring B-Metro facilities, bus stops and shelter locations, revenue and non-revenue vehicles are aesthetically pleasing to the public. The Maintenance Worker I assists with minor carpentry repairs and ground upkeep of all B-Metro facilities. Performs routine landscaping maintenance such as trimming trees, hedges, bushes, mowing lawns and other related tasks as necessary utilizing safety precautions. The employee works according to set procedures under the supervision of the Maintenance Worker II/Crew Leader and strictly adheres to all applicable state and local laws, regulations, safety rules, departmental policies and procedures.

Requirements

Operates hand and power tools such as trimmers, vacuum sweepers, outdoor handheld power equipment and mowers.
Safely operates tools and equipment in all types of weather or conditions.
High school graduation or GED, or sufficient education to read and write with no experience.
Valid Texas Driver’s License.
Ability to exert up to 35-50 lbs. of force occasionally to move objects.
Responsible for assigned equipment/property used outside of office; use of a City vehicle.
Must successfully pass a Drug & Alcohol and a physical examination and a Background Check.

Responsibilities

Maintains green areas by mowing, weeding, landscaping, and trimming vegetation.
Maintains buildings and structures following direction from the crew leader, supervisor and/or manager. This might include, but not limited to, drywall repair, painting, installation of fixtures, pavement hot and cold patches, street signs and pavement markings, cleaning, washing, mopping, sweeping, restocking supplies, trash pickup, cleaning restrooms and cleaning parking lots up to standards and safety expected by the general public.
Maintains facilities, tools, and equipment for preventative maintenance, proper function, and cleanliness.
Maintains facilities, gutters, roofs, transfer stations, and bus stops/shelters free of trash and debris.
Daily inspects facilities, vehicles, equipment, and tools thoroughly; reporting mechanical defects and needed repairs on web-based work order application and reviewing with supervisor.
Daily fueling and washing of all revenue and non-revenue vehicles.
Reports hazardous, dangerous, or unsafe conditions immediately and completes necessary computer-based and written reports.
Successfully works well in groups and is a good team player.
Performs other related tasks and work in emergency situations, as necessary.
