About The Position

Under general supervision, the Maintenance Worker I learns and performs duties across the Maintenance Worker series, including maintenance and construction work in streets, parks, lake operations, facilities, and the stadium. The position is an entry-level classification in which employees initially perform routine, less complex assignments and develop the knowledge and abilities needed for journey-level work. It is alternatively staffed with Maintenance Worker II, and advancement may be possible after gaining experience and demonstrating the required proficiency. The position is assigned to Launch Pointe Campground in Lake Elsinore. Work hours vary by assigned shift but fall between 7:30 a.m. and 7:30 p.m.; the schedule is 9/80 and includes weekends. Boat-rental shift days include Saturdays and Sundays, and those hours may change by season. Employees may also be assigned after-hours call-outs and routine standby duties. The position receives direct supervision from a Maintenance Worker III and/or Lead Worker; incumbents do not routinely supervise. Work spans streets, parks, lake recreation areas, facilities, and the stadium. Duties include maintenance, repair, construction, installation, inspections, hazard reporting, equipment operation and care, and customer service. Assignments may include street and storm-drain work; park and landscaping maintenance; lake and boat-rental operations; and facility janitorial work. Employees may also assist other Public Works and Maintenance Services units, support City-sponsored functions, and work with outside contractors. The work is outdoors in all weather conditions and involves physical activity, manual labor, and operation of vehicles, heavy equipment, watercraft, hand tools, and power tools. Lake assignments require swimming and wading. The role may involve exposure to chemicals, fumes, dust, air contaminants, mechanical and electrical hazards, noise, traffic, heights, and confined spaces. After a conditional offer, candidates must successfully pass a Live Scan, physical, and drug test to proceed.
