About The Position

The Transportation Department operates and maintains the city’s streets and traffic control devices. The department is split into two divisions: Streets and Traffic. The Streets Division provides safe and well-maintained streets, alleys, sidewalks and drainage facilities for the use of citizens and residents. The Traffic Division plans, operates and maintains the transportation systems within the city of Irving in a safe, efficient and proactive manner. Requirements

  • Six months of related experience
  • Ability to read and write at a level necessary for successful job performance
  • Basic computer skills
  • Valid Class C Texas driver’s license
  • Possess, or be able to obtain within six months, a valid Class A Texas Commercial Driver’s License (CDL)

Responsibilities

  • Repairing and maintaining street infrastructure
  • Setting up safety and traffic control systems for repair work
  • Cleaning, servicing and maintaining assigned tools, machinery, equipment and vehicles
  • Using basic equipment to perform repairs, e.g. jackhammer, rakes, and/or shovels
  • Serving as a flagger to direct traffic around work zones
  • Removing refuse and debris from rights-of-way, medians and embankments
