About The Position

This position performs street maintenance and repair duties. Loads tools and equipment onto the truck; fills and loads water cooler. Assists in the repair of cave-ins on pipes and storm drains; excavates cave-ins; mixes cement; builds collars; backfills excavation site. Assists in laying pipe and in building manholes and boxes; wipes pipes to prevent leaks; mixes cement; assists in the laying of bricks. Drives flatbed truck as authorized. Flags traffic as necessary. Performs other related duties as assigned.

Requirements

• Knowledge of the principles, practices, and techniques utilized in the installation, maintenance, and repair of the stormwater system.
• Knowledge of the tools used in the installation, maintenance, and repair of the stormwater system.
• Skill in problem-solving and decision-making.
• Skill in the use of hand tools such as shovels, rakes, and sledgehammers.
• Skill in oral and written communication.
• Sufficient experience to understand the basic principles relevant to the major duties of the position, usually associated with the completion of an apprenticeship/internship or having had a similar position for one to two years.
• Must possess a valid driver's license.
• Must pass the Department of Corrections three-day certification within the time frame required by this department, which is normally six months but may be altered.
