About The Position

The City of Saratoga Springs has an opening for a full-time Maintenance Worker I or II – Water position within the Public Works Department, working approximately 40 hours per week. This role operates under the general direction of the Assistant Public Works Director – Utilities. The department aims to provide opportunities for growth and progression. The positions are responsible for assisting in the ongoing operation and maintenance of the City's culinary and secondary water systems. Additionally, these roles serve as key on-call employees for after-hours emergencies related to their areas of responsibility and for snow plowing.

Requirements

  • Maintenance I: High School Diploma or GED equivalent. No experience required, but preference given to applicants with experience in public works systems or general construction.
  • Maintenance II: High School Diploma or GED equivalent. Two (2) years of experience working with public water facilities; or an equivalent combination of job-related education and experience.
  • Maintenance I: A Valid Utah CDL, CPR, First Aid, OSHA Confined Spaces, Backflow 101 certifications must be acquired within 6 months of employment.
  • Maintenance II: Water Operator II and Backflow Technician certifications.
  • Maintenance II: OSHA Confined Space Certification.
  • Maintenance II: OSHA Trench Safety Training.
  • Maintenance II: First Aid and CPR Certification.
  • Maintenance II: Utah CDL License.
  • Knowledge of water systems and their functions, operations and routine maintenance needs.
  • Knowledge of basic computer operations and applications.
  • Knowledge of correct use of the English language and vocabulary.
  • Ability to interact with the public in emotional situations while maintaining a professional and polite demeanor.
  • Ability to operate moderate to heavy equipment needed for maintenance duties.
  • Ability to review and interpret basic to moderately difficult building and construction plans for public utility systems.
  • Ability to communicate in a concise and effective manner.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with developers, contractors, citizens, coworkers, and supervisors.
  • Ability to exercise sound and good judgment at all times, especially in emergency situations.
  • Ability to deal with the public in a pleasant, courteous, and calm manner.

Nice To Haves

  • Preference will be given to applicants with some experience working with public works systems or general construction (for Maintenance I).

Responsibilities

  • Perform daily site inspections of culinary and secondary water facilities to ensure adequate water levels and function.
  • Repair and coordinate repairs to water facilities as needed.
  • Installation and maintenance of water meters.
  • Water meter reading on a monthly basis.
  • Communication with the public (developers, contractors or property owners) as needed on location of public utilities.
  • Snow plowing of public streets as needed.
  • General maintenance duties of public facilities as assigned.
  • Utility locating.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
