About The Position

The Maintenance Worker I performs semi-skilled maintenance and repair work across multiple trades, including carpentry, plumbing, electrical, and HVAC. Assists skilled technicians with installations, repairs, preventive maintenance, building inspections, and work order completion to help ensure campus facilities remain safe, functional, and well-maintained. This is an essential position that may require reporting to work during emergencies or campus closures.

Requirements

• Completion of 10th grade High School Diploma or equivalent preferred
• 1 year Experience performing a variety of semi-skilled maintenance and repair tasks as a helper to a journeyman or as a handyman in a general building maintenance environment required
• Exerts up to 100 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 50 pounds frequently and/or up to 20 pounds constantly to move objects.
• Employees must permanently reside and work in the State of Texas.

Responsibilities

• Performs semi-skilled maintenance, preventative maintenance (PM), repair, and remodeling tasks, including removing and replacing ceiling tiles and floor tiles, water cleanup, moving furniture, light carpentry, repairing and installing sheetrock, painting, light electrical repairs, removing and installing filters and fan belts, repairing and installing plumbing fixtures and piping, replacing lights and fuses, and performing door maintenance and replacing baseboards.
• Assists personnel in various trades (electrical, plumbing, HVAC, carpentry, and others) with the removal, repair, and installation of related equipment.
• Performs building rounds to check equipment operation, log temperatures and pressures, note concerns, and report findings to the supervisor.
• May be required to complete assigned work orders using the computerized maintenance manager system (CMMS) through PC and smartphone applications.
• Performs assigned tasks following university and departmental policies and procedures.
• Required to carry a university communication device and respond to calls during normal business hours.
• Personnel in designated essential positions are expected to report to their designated work site during their appointed work schedules, even when the institution has been officially declared to be on restricted access or closed due to adverse conditions.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
