About The Position

This position is responsible for the maintenance of the City of Auburn’s facilities. This position reports to the Facilities Maintenance Coordinator. The work is medium work, which requires exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 30 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects. Work is typically performed while intermittently sitting, standing, stooping, or walking. The employee uses tools or equipment requiring manual dexterity, distinguishes between shades of color, and utilizes the sense of smell. The work is typically performed in various indoor and outdoor environments. The employee is exposed to noise, dust, dirt, grease, machinery with moving parts, contagious or infectious diseases, irritating chemicals, and occasional cold or inclement weather. The work requires the use of protective devices such as masks, goggles, gloves, etc.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent
• One (1) to two (2) years’ experience
• Possession of or ability to obtain a valid Alabama Class B Commercial Driver’s License within six months of employment.
• Possession of or ability to readily obtain a Class C UST Operator Certificate.
• Knowledge of City and department policies and procedures.
• Knowledge of the repair and maintenance of plumbing and electrical systems.
• Knowledge of carpentry, masonry, and painting.
• Knowledge of relevant safety regulations, practices and procedures used in equipment and facilities maintenance.
• Knowledge of local government operations, policies and plans, and modern office practices and procedures.
• Skill in operating a wide variety of hand tools and specialized equipment.
• Skill in performing basic mathematical calculations, such as addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, and percentages.
• Skill in decision-making and problem-solving.
• Skill in effective communication, both orally and in writing.
• Ability to meet and deal with employees and the public in an effective and courteous manner.
• Ability to get along with others, and work effectively with the public and co-workers.
• Ability to deal with confidential and sensitive matters.
• Ability to work independently, work well with others, and manage time effectively.

Responsibilities

• Performs troubleshooting and maintenance duties related to facilities maintenance.
• Performs grounds maintenance duties.
• Performs minor repair and maintenance duties related to plumbing, electrical, carpentry, and mechanical systems.
• Performs cleaning duties at city facilities.
• Performs facilities maintenance duties through use of various tools and equipment.
• Performs other related job duties as assigned.
