About The Position

The Maintenance Utilityperson performs emergency and routine maintenance within residential, commercial, and public spaces. This role involves diagnosing and correcting maintenance problems using blueprints, manuals, and catalogs. Responsibilities include plumbing installation, maintenance, and repair of building fixtures, as well as installation and troubleshooting of electronic and electrical fixtures up to 110 volts. The position also entails fabrication, repair, and installation of cabinets, shelving, and interior doors, along with HVAC repairs and preventative maintenance of various mechanical equipment. The Utilityperson is responsible for accurately recording work performed, materials used, and jobs in progress on work orders, measuring building materials, and maintaining a detailed log of vehicle activities. Ensuring a clean and safe environment during and after work completion is also a key duty. Additional duties may be assigned by the supervisor. Note that duties may vary depending on the department or shop to which the Utilityperson is assigned.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma/GED or equivalent required.
  • Knowledge of OSHA and safety requirements related to performing maintenance repairs.
  • Proficiency with industry hand and power tools.
  • Working knowledge of materials and method in field.
  • Previous experience in maintenance of high-rise buildings, houses or other structures.
  • Effective written/oral communication and good interpersonal skills.
  • Must be proactive and resourceful; skilled at working independently and taking ownership over tasks and responsibilities.
  • Must be able to work overtime as well as varying schedules based on the needs of the department.

Nice To Haves

  • Bi-Lingual is a plus.
  • Possession of a valid NY/NJ/CT/PA driver license preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Performance of emergency and routine maintenance within residential, commercial and public spaces.
  • Diagnose maintenance problems, and correct defects using blueprints, manuals, catalogs, etc.
  • Plumbing installation, maintenance and repair of building fixtures, including lines up to 2-1/2” diameter.
  • Installation and troubleshooting, including repair of electronic and electrical fixtures up to 110 volts.
  • Fabrication, repair and installation of cabinets, shelving, and interior doors.
  • HVAC repairs, including clearing of condensation lines, blower fan and motor replacement.
  • Preventative maintenance of various mechanical equipment and fixtures.
  • Records work performed, materials used and jobs in progress on work orders.
  • Measures building materials and spaces for installation accurately.
  • Maintain detailed log of vehicle activities and conditions, reporting any issues to supervisor.
  • Ensure a clean and safe environment in all spaces during and after work completed.
  • Performance of additional duties and responsibilities as assigned by supervisor.
