This role involves checking for the proper operation of all utility equipment daily, making adjustments as needed, and maintaining proper records for the company's PSM program. The technician will assist in the operation and inspection of boilers, perform water tests, and check/repair air and ammonia compressors. Maintaining open communication with plant management and personnel is crucial for ensuring the proper operation of all utility equipment. The role also includes laying out and installing new equipment, observing safety rules, and complying with all SOPs and safety regulations. Adherence to Saputo's code of ethics and values, and professional teamwork are expected.

Requirements

  • Prior industrial maintenance experience
  • Boiler maintenance and trouble shooting experience
  • Ammonia refrigeration experience to include Recep. Compressors, Screw Compressors, Cooling Towers, Evaporators, and any associated equipment
  • Ammonia experience to include the completion and maintenance of required regulatory documentation
  • Working knowledge of an ammonia PSM program, including the regulatory requirement associated with that program
  • Air Compressor experience to include screw compressors
  • Strong math, computer and communication skills
  • Able to work confidently in a fast-paced environment
  • Working knowledge of hand and machining tools and maintenance shop equipment
  • Must be able to work in all types of weather, including heat and cold
  • Will work with and around equipment 100% of shift
  • Must be able to reach, stretch, bend, kneel and stoop on a frequent and repeated basis throughout the shift
  • Must be able to climb ladders and work at heights up to 25 feet
  • Must have hand strength and dexterity to grip and operate a variety of hand tools
  • Must be able to lift up to 100 pounds above the waist and carry heavy objects
  • Must be able to stand and walk on hard surfaces throughout the shift
  • Must be able to work assigned shift, including overtime, weekends and holidays as required

Responsibilities

  • Check for proper operation of all utility equipment on a daily basis
  • Make adjustments to equipment as needed
  • Keep proper records on the operation of all utility equipment to include company’s PSM program
  • Assist in the operation and inspection of Boilers
  • Assist with the required system inspections for the company’s PSM Program
  • Perform water tests on towers and boilers to ensure proper water treatment and make adjustments to chemical feed systems as needed
  • Check and repair air and ammonia compressors and related system as needed
  • Maintain open communication with plant management, supervision and the maintenance personnel to ensure proper operation of all utility equipment at all times
  • Layout and install new/different equipment if needed
  • Observe and practice all rules of safety
  • Comply with all Standard Operating Procedures (SOP’s)
  • Comply with federal, state and local safety regulations
  • Adhere to the Saputo code of ethics and actively apply the Saputo values
  • Work together professionally in a team environment with coworkers and other department personnel
  • Other duties as required by management
