About The Position

The City of Ventura is hiring multiple part-time extra-help Maintenance Trainee positions within the Parks Division. These temporary, at-will positions work under direct supervision to perform a diverse range of maintenance tasks, from routine duties to assisting with projects. Current vacancies are within the Parks Facilities Maintenance, Parks Operations, and Urban Forestry sections. Extra help positions work less than 1,000 hours per fiscal year and are subject to budget availability and agency needs.

Requirements

• Possession of a valid California Class C driver license and an acceptable drivers record, or ability to obtain driver's license prior to appointment, may be required.

Nice To Haves

• Related experience and knowledge of common tools used in landscape maintenance and plant care.
• Experience with the operation of small motorized equipment.

Responsibilities

• Perform maintenance tasks at the Ventura Aquatic Center, including washing decks, vacuuming and sweeping pools, cleaning tiles, wiping down tables, cleaning debris, checking pool chemicals, and conducting equipment maintenance.
• Drive a City vehicle along a designated water route, filling water bags for newly planted trees, ensuring trees are properly staked, and conducting light weeding of tree wells.
• Perform daily opening and closing of City parks, including weekend coverage.
• Perform routine grounds maintenance and landscaping work as part of the City’s tree and parks crew to support daily maintenance and operational activities.
