This role installs new equipment and performs repairs and preventative maintenance on equipment and facilities at the Fulbright and Blackman Water Treatment Plants and at remote sites, under the direction of the Supervisor-Water Treatment Maintenance or designee. This job description also applies to Maintenance Technician-2nd 6 months, and 3rd 6 months, which are training and progression steps to the Maintenance Technician-Thereafter classification.

Requirements

  • High school graduate or equivalent is required.
  • A minimum of three years recent, relevant mechanical experience and three years recent electrical experience of industrial equipment is required.
  • Must have demonstrated skills in: The maintenance of complex mechanical/electrical equipment, industrial plants, and associated structures.
  • Structural welding, electrical circuitry and test instruments, hydraulic equipment, lifting and hoisting systems, mechanical equipment repair/alignment/tear down/troubleshooting, and safe start-up and shut-down of equipment.
  • Carpentry, plumbing, electrical construction, and use of shop and hand tools.
  • Good oral and written communication and be able to interpret manuals, blueprints, and schematics.
  • A safe work record and demonstrate good attendance.
  • Ability to effectively utilize a range of digital tools and platforms, including but not limited to Microsoft Office Suite, enterprise software, artificial intelligence-enhanced applications, and self-service systems.
  • Must possess a willingness and capacity to learn and adapt to emerging technologies, including mobile devices, cloud-based systems, and data-driven platforms relevant to utility operations.
  • Maintain adherence to all company policies.
  • Ability to visually differentiate between color-coded lines and symbols on a computer monitor in order to detect energized and de-energized equipment.
  • Physical requirements include: sitting, standing, grasping, bending, crouching, reaching, balancing, twisting, kneeling, pushing, pulling, and climbing.
  • Must be able to lift 55 pounds regularly.
  • Must have a valid Missouri CDL, Class A including air brakes with hazardous material endorsement, OR: The ability to obtain a Missouri Commercial Learner’s Permit (CLP) within six weeks of employment AND The ability to obtain a CDL, Class A, including air brakes with hazardous material endorsement within in six months of employment.
  • Break-in training, as well as a minimum of 10 days' annual water treatment plant operation in any or all shifts, is required within the first year of employment.
  • Will be required to pass proficiency testing in areas of required skills, which may also be supported by extensive education or experience.

Nice To Haves

  • A working knowledge of high voltage electrical motors and controls, large pumps, and diesel engines is preferred.
  • Successfully completed a training course in Industrial Motors & Controls I and II or approved equal is preferred.
  • Extensive recent mechanical and electrical maintenance of industrial equipment (for 2nd 6 months eligibility).
  • Class “A” CDL license with air brake and hazardous material endorsement (for 2nd 6 months eligibility).
  • Successfully completed a training course in Industrial Motors & Controls I and II or approved equal (for 2nd 6 months eligibility).
  • Extensive recent mechanical and medium voltage (to 6000 volt) electrical maintenance of industrial equipment (for 3rd 6 months eligibility).
  • Must be registered to take DNR test for class "D" Water license (for 3rd 6 months eligibility).
  • Hazwoper trained to HAZMAT Technician level (for 3rd 6 months eligibility).

Responsibilities

  • Inspects, repairs, installs, and performs maintenance and preventative maintenance on equipment and facilities at Fulbright Treatment Plant and Blackman Treatment Plant and all remote sites.
  • Trains other personnel regarding maintenance activities.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned by management.
  • Perform additional plant operation on any and all shifts as required by operations.
  • Schedules are developed to cover absences of regular operations personnel.
  • Must be willing to work overtime and work under the pressure of deadlines and outages.
  • Required to attend training courses when deemed necessary and worthwhile by management, including training in use of self-contained breathing apparatus and control of chemical spills and leaks.
  • Employee must remain alert and aware of their surroundings at all times and maintain the ability to respond to changing circumstances in a timely manner.
  • Must be able to work successfully with diverse groups of people.
