About The Position

Under direct supervision, performs general labor and maintenance of Airport facilities, grounds, airfield, AOA ramps, and associated equipment. Performs manual labor in a variety of construction and maintenance functions. Work schedules will include weekends and nights and occasional overtime. On occasion may be subject to being called in during non-scheduled hours to respond to any situation related to the responsibilities of the position, or any situation determined necessary by the department.

Requirements

High School Diploma or GED.
Valid Florida License or must obtain within (30) days of assuming position and a good driving record.
3 years’ experience in a trade or trades such as plumbing, electrical, landscaping, painting, etc. (for Technician II)
Knowledge of principles, practices, and methods of basic maintenance.
Knowledge of potential safety hazards and related safety precautions.
Knowledge of ground maintenance and equipment maintenance.
Skill in the use of hand and power tools.
Ability to learn on the job, in a hands-on, physical labor environment.
Ability to take and pass in-house computer-based training and safety program, as required.
Ability to perform routine and physical work.
Ability to understand and interpret oral and written instructions.
Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with superiors and fellow employees.
Ability to obtain and maintain any license or certificates needed to perform a specific job assignment.

Nice To Haves

Experience working with a trade, maintenance, landscaping or equipment, preferred. (for Technician I)
Graduation from or currently enrolled in a trade school or equivalent apprenticeship program, preferred. (for Technician II)
Valid Florida Commercial Driver’s License (CDL), preferred. (for Technician II)
Ability to read and comprehend plans and specifications, preferred.
FAA Part 139 knowledge/experience, preferred.

Responsibilities

Performs general maintenance work including, but not limited to concrete work, carpentry work, drywall, painting, tile work, wallpaper, and ceiling tile replacement, plumbing and irrigation repairs, landscaping, installation and replacement of door locks and hardware.
Repairs and performs preventive maintenance on Authority owned mechanical equipment. To include passenger boarding bridge repair and maintenance, conveyor system repair and maintenance, security gates, automatic entrance doors and T-hangars.
Repairs and performs preventive maintenance Authority owned vehicles. To include trucks, light and heavy, Police vehicles, Fire Fighting vehicles, various mowing equipment, various tractors, various small engines, and various earth moving equipment.
Paved area maintenance. To include all runways, taxiways, ramps, and aprons associated with the Airport authority. All areas will be maintained in accordance with FAA Part 139 guidelines. Surfaces will include various concrete and asphalt compounds.
Painting, all phases. To include various Authority equipment and properties, both indoor and outdoor.
Runway and taxiway markings, surface painted signs, ramp, and movement areas. Daily maintenance of the painting equipment.
Electrical repairs and replacement of items as directed. To include light changes and inspections. High and low voltage work, under direct supervision.
Airfield lighting. To include Assisting Airfield Electricians with diagnosing, repairing, and replacing all components of airfield lighting, guidance and illuminated signage systems.
Carpentry, all phases. To include ceiling tile, floor covering, drywall, cabinet and casework fabrication, doors, locksmithing, painting and trim. General remodeling. Measuring tools.
Plumbing, all phases. To include urinal and toilet maintenance, main line drain cleaning, branch line drains cleaning, water fountain repairs, potable water cabinet repairs, water heater repairs and replacements, unclogging of all drain lines and irrigation repairs.
Roofing systems, all phases. To include roofing repairs and inspections.
Fabrication shop equipment. To include welders, sheet metal tools, various cutting equipment and measuring tools.
Cuts grass, including airfield mowing. To include Runway Safety Areas (RSA) and all airfield turf areas. Mowing equipment will be inspected daily for safety and needed repairs as well as routine maintenance. (Checks equipment for fluid levels and cleans and maintains equipment.
Repair fences, fill holes including paved areas.
Performs heavy landscape work.
Fills washouts and plants sod.
Performs fertilization/pesticide/herbicide applications, as needed.
Cleans ramp, parking lots, runway, and taxiway.
Cross-trains with and assists other facilities personnel on an as needed basis.
