About The Position

The Maintenance Technician is responsible for performing skilled and semi-skilled work associated with the maintenance and repair of the college’s facilities and grounds. Maintenance Technicians often carry out many different tasks in a single day at any number of locations. They may work inside a single building or be responsible for the maintenance of many buildings, building systems, and provide help to staff, faculty, and students as needed.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of the tools, equipment, materials and practices of building and grounds maintenance
  • Knowledge of safety policies and procedures
  • Knowledge of plumbing, electrical and HVAC system maintenance and repair
  • Skill in the operation of computers and job-related software programs
  • Skill in interpersonal relations and in dealing with the public
  • Oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to lift, push and carry heavy items
  • Ability to read, interpret and apply construction plans, specifications and blueprints
  • Must have a valid driver’s license
  • A high school diploma or equivalent and One (1) year of experience in a skilled trade or building maintenance.

Nice To Haves

  • Two years working experience in a large-scale maintenance facility or five years’ experience in a skilled trade which would have enabled the applicant to acquire the necessary knowledge, skills and abilities to perform maintenance duties.

Responsibilities

  • Participates in the repair and maintenance of college equipment and vehicles using a variety of tools, materials, and equipment while maintaining required records, logs, and electronic work order system.
  • Installs, maintains or repairs electrical and plumbing systems with associated hardware.
  • Participates in grounds maintenance activities, including installing and maintaining landscaping, applying herbicides and pesticides, and maintaining parking lots.
  • Maintains fire alarms, sprinkler, and security systems.
  • Assists with carpentry and renovation projects as assigned.
  • Responds to emergency requests for repairs.
  • Other duties as assigned.
