About The Position

The Maintenance Technician is responsible for the upkeep, construction, maintenance, and repairs of all facilities and equipment, and supports preserve operations. The facilities include buildings, roads, a runway, water treatment facilities, a wastewater treatment wetland, and a 75kw photovoltaic grid with battery and generator backup. The position is also responsible for corrective and preventative maintenance designed to improve and maintain the performance and safety of the equipment, including rust abatement and miscellaneous mechanical troubleshooting on all vehicles and heavy equipment such as tractors and backhoe. The role will monitor and maintain a renewable energy hybrid microgrid consisting of a solar photovoltaic system, battery storage, and a diesel generator. The position is responsible for tracking and maintaining an inventory of necessary parts and materials for maintenance operations using Excel software. Additionally, the role is responsible for daily cleaning and maintenance of selected facilities and any other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • High school diploma and 4 years' direct experience maintaining facilities or equipment with applied knowledge in electrical, mechanical, plumbing, refrigeration, or basic carpentry.
  • Experience operating and/or repairing various types of equipment and machinery (e.g., lawn mower, chainsaw, tractor, backhoe, bulldozer, dump truck, two-way radio, etc.).
  • Experience performing corrective and preventative maintenance of mechanical equipment and engines.
  • Experience with basic maintenance of water and waste systems or energy systems, preferably photovoltaic, battery storage and diesel generators.
  • Experience with MS Word and Excel in producing reports and maintaining inventories.
  • Ability to perform physically demanding work and lift up to 50 pounds, sometimes under adverse conditions including climbing tall ladders, working on roofs and in small, cramped spaces.
  • Must possess, or be able to obtain, a valid Passport with an expiration date later than your term of employment.
  • Proof of a physical examination showing good health.
  • A current tetanus vaccination.
  • A first aid/CPR certification current throughout assignment.
  • Currently eligible to work in the United States.
  • Confirm residency in a U.S. state or territory where TNC is registered for tax withholding and workers' compensation insurance purposes.
  • Ability to meet the requirements of The Nature Conservancy's background screening process.

Responsibilities
