About The Position

Lexington Regional Health Center is seeking a full-time Maintenance Technician to join their Plant Operations department. This role is responsible for maintaining and inspecting various building systems and equipment, ensuring the safety and compliance of the facility, and performing general groundskeeping and transportation duties. The position requires the ability to work independently and as part of a team, follow detailed instructions, and maintain accurate records. The Maintenance Technician will also be responsible for handling biohazardous waste and ensuring patient and staff safety.

Requirements

  • Ability to read equipment manuals, contractor agreements, and maintenance documents, typically acquired through a high school diploma or equivalent.
  • Current Nebraska driver's license.
  • Ability to maintain, repair, and inspect health center owned properties, equipment, and vehicles with reasonable effectiveness.
  • Ability to operate all types of machinery, health center equipment, and operating systems such as generators, boilers, air conditioning, and alarm panels.
  • Analytical ability to evaluate all aspects of the physical plant and equipment to determine the need for maintenance and/or repair.
  • Ability to carry out detailed written and oral instructions.
  • Ability to maintain strict confidentiality with regard to protected and sensitive information.
  • Ability to complete reports and correspondence at a professional level.
  • Communication skills necessary to complete maintenance reports, prepare letters to vendors, follow detailed instructions, and discuss maintenance issues with contractors.
  • Ability to immediately respond to common inquiries and complaints from patients, employees, and regulatory agencies.
  • Ability to effectively communicate with individuals from diverse backgrounds.
  • Successful completion of required knowledge and training of standard precaution protocols and when to apply them.

Nice To Haves

  • Two years’ experience and/or specialized training in the maintenance, operation, repair, and inspection of institutionalized heating, cooling, plumbing, water, gas, electrical and mechanical systems and equipment.

Responsibilities

  • Consult with the Director of Plant Operations to determine optimal repair mechanisms for complex issues.
  • Maintain and inspect heating, cooling, plumbing, water, gas, electrical, and mechanical equipment, including changing filters and belts, and cleaning coils and pumps.
  • Maintain the grounds of all health center properties, including snow removal, sprinkler repair, trash pick-up, weed control, and tree trimming.
  • Accompany inspectors, surveyors, and contractors during reviews and repairs of physical and non-clinical equipment.
  • Keep accurate maintenance records of all work performed.
  • Keep equipment manuals for new equipment up-to-date by contacting vendors and conducting computer searches.
  • Transport linen, food carts, etc., to and from various health center properties.
  • Ensure patients and visitors follow current infection control guidelines.
  • Ensure the environment meets appropriate governing body standards.
  • Responsible for safe bagging, disposal, and packaging of biohazardous waste.
  • Perform duties that may involve exposure to blood and bloodborne pathogens, such as handling blood-contaminated items.
  • Maintain patient and staff safety through the use of patient safety tools like Teamstepps and Just Culture.
  • Regular attendance at the assigned work location is required.
  • Perform all other duties as assigned.
