About The Position

The Maintenance Technician ensures the safety, functionality, and upkeep of Lucy’s Hearth properties, including both on-site building and scattered site apartments. Responsibilities include preventative maintenance, troubleshooting, routine maintenance, conducting safety inspections, coordinating with hired contractors, and emergency response/coordination. The technician works in family-centered environments, demonstrates professionalism, and adheres to confidentiality policies. This role is essential to ensure safe, functional, and welcoming environments for the families we serve.

Requirements

  • Experience in general maintenance, facilities management, and coordination of contractors.
  • Basic knowledge of plumbing, electrical, and HVAC systems, as well as carpentry.
  • Ability to troubleshoot and repair common building issues.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and prioritize effectively and respond in emergencies.
  • Required understanding of working in a family-centered, trauma-informed setting.
  • Valid driver’s license (required for traveling between sites).
  • Ability to lift 50 lbs. and perform physical work, including using walkways, stairs, elevators, ladders, and on roof.
  • Adapt to work performed outdoors throughout the year.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience working in or around shelters, or family environments preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Perform routine maintenance and minor repairs on buildings, equipment, and grounds.
  • Complete preventative maintenance for HVAC, plumbing, lighting, and electrical systems.
  • Troubleshoot maintenance problems and complete timely repairs.
  • On occasion, assemble furniture, assist with internal moves.
  • Carpentry, repairs to drywall, and painting.
  • Inspect facilities regularly to identify maintenance needs and safety concerns.
  • Ensure facilities comply with safety regulations and local building codes.
  • Maintain clear walkways, exits, and emergency access points.
  • Assist with snow removal, salting, and general grounds maintenance.
  • Maintain exterior lighting, building access points, and monitor building security concerns.
  • Maintain accurate work orders, maintenance logs, and inspection reports.
  • Track purchases and inventory of tools, parts, and equipment.
  • Coordinate with external vendors and contractors, including scheduling, oversight, management of service contracts, and quality assurance.
  • Respond to requests in a timely manner, including after-hours emergencies, as needed.
  • Other duties assigned by the Director of Lucy’s Hearth and FSRI’s Director of Facilities, which may include assisting with off-site projects for FSRI when scheduling allows.
