OxyChem is seeking a Maintenance Technician to provide maintenance craft skills in a safe, productive, and environmentally-responsible manner to achieve plant goals and objectives. Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED is required.
  • Five (5) years process mechanical maintenance experience in industry OR a Chemical Operator with Senior Tech Field Qualification at the Oxy New Johnsonville site OR two (2) years maintenance experience in industry and Associates Degree in Maintenance Technology.
  • Must be NCCER Certified in Millwright or Pipefitting.
  • Must have plant and process knowledge and craft knowledge to safely plan and perform assigned work.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills required.
  • Strong computer skills required to interact with the computerized maintenance management system.
  • Must be capable of installing, troubleshooting and repairing equipment such as pumps, motors, valves, etc.
  • Proficiency in math, reading comprehension and mechanical reasoning.
  • Must satisfy the “ability to wear” for respiratory use.
  • Must be able to lift and handle bags of materials weighing up to 50 pounds.
  • Must be able to exert force to open and close manually-operated valves.
  • Must be able to climb single-section vertical ladders up to 30 feet and climb stairs.
  • Must be able to work from elevations of up to 90 feet above ground level.
  • Must be able to enter and work in confined spaces.
  • Must routinely work on uneven surfaces.
  • Requires dexterity to perform routine craft work, such as operation of hand and power tools, disassemble and assemble equipment, align and position parts, perform rigging, operate mobile equipment, etc.
  • Walking, bending, stooping is required.
  • Must be able to wear personal protective equipment including the use of a respirator.
  • Must be able to respond to visual and audible alarms.

Nice To Haves

  • Welding experience a plus.
  • SAP knowledge a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Provide maintenance craft skills in a safe, productive, and environmentally-responsible manner.
  • Support programs, methods, systems, and practices for maintaining a safe work environment.
  • Review HESS program requirements and recommend improvements.
  • Review work requests for safety hazards and take necessary precautions.
  • Attend monthly safety meetings.
  • Participate in weekly housekeeping and critical items inspections of maintenance shops.
  • Participate in field evaluations of one key procedure each quarter.
  • Perform reliable repairs on plant piping, structures, and plant process equipment and systems (rotating, mechanical, pneumatic, hydraulic).
  • Troubleshoot, inspect, fabricate, modify, remove, repair, overhaul, or replace parts or equipment on systems involved directly or indirectly with chemical processes or associated support equipment.
  • Operate tools and perform systems tests to ensure proper completion of work.
  • Perform routine adjustment and minor maintenance on equipment.
  • Complete work orders as assigned.
  • Identify and obtain necessary parts, tools, equipment, materials, and supplies.
  • Adhere to area equipment Preventative Maintenance (PM) program and related procedures.
  • Maintain necessary training and qualification, including area overviews and applicable HESS courses.
  • Maintain craft skills to ensure ability to complete assigned work.
  • Provide assistance to other maintenance crafts as qualified.
  • Support Cell Renewal maintenance activities, including use of positive material identification analyzer (XRF) and single electrode potential (SEP) equipment and technology.
  • Attend company or vendor training as directed.
  • Train and qualify to operate mobile equipment (forklifts, manlifts, carry decks, etc.).
  • Use a variety of hand and power tools, meters, and material handling equipment.
  • Move, adjust, install/reinstall machinery and equipment using hoists, jacks, hand tools, and other equipment.
  • Replace defective parts of machines and/or adjust clearances and alignment of moving parts.
  • Repair and lubricate machines and equipment.
  • Perform all work in a safe and professional manner in compliance with applicable HESS, maintenance, and other related procedures.
  • Perform safety, quality, and environmental inspections as assigned.
  • Perform regular housekeeping to maintain a clean and safe work area.
  • Comply with all safety, health, and environmental rules and regulations.
  • Participate in special information or problem-solving teams as requested.
  • Utilize Maintenance files or other engineering data to solve plant maintenance-related problems.
  • Perform recordkeeping required to properly document inspections and repairs.
  • Utilize a computer and/or tablet for recording time and attendance, SAP applications, email communications, and area process data.
  • Utilize the computerized maintenance management system to document repair notes, review repair history, and obtain materials from Stores.
  • Cooperate with other employees in a team atmosphere to solve plant problems and achieve plant goals.
  • Support and fulfill the requirements of the plant’s Food Safe and ISO Quality System.
  • Complete necessary activities to comply with the requirements of the Routine Maintenance program.
  • Complete miscellaneous tasks and additional responsibilities as assigned.
