About The Position

The General Maintenance Worker will perform general maintenance and repairs for assigned equipment and facilities including plumbing, electrical, basic carpentry, heating and cooling, and other building systems. The successful candidate will be able to read and interpret equipment manuals, drawings, schematics, blueprints, and work orders to perform required maintenance. They will provide emergency repairs on production equipment to keep lines operational at all times and perform scheduled maintenance and repairs of production equipment including replacement of failed components such as bearings, belts, motors, power/control lines, etc. This role involves diagnosing problems and failures and repairing or replacing parts as required, disassembling/assembling defective machines and equipment, and installing new or repaired parts using specifications and/or blueprints, precision measuring instruments, and hand tools. The technician will also adjust various types of devices and control systems, understand facilities, systems, and component functions and relationships, and be competent in their troubleshooting and repair. Knowledge of installing, troubleshooting, and repairing electrical systems (480v and below, and control voltage/systems) is required. Basic hydraulics/pneumatics experience is needed, and ammonia refrigeration experience is preferred. Experience in a fast-paced, cold, wet production environment is also beneficial. The ability to collaborate well with production line workers and supervisors, with a strong customer service mindset, is essential.

Requirements

  • Ability to speak, understand, read and write in English.
  • Ability to apply mathematical concepts to practical situations.
  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
  • Computer literate with intermediate skills in Excel.
  • Advanced knowledge/skills with forklifts and electric pallet jacks.
  • Ability to make decisions on routine matters utilizing company policies and procedures and directions from upper management.
  • Regularly required to move about the facility.
  • Standing/walking on concrete floors up to 12 hours per day, 6 days per week.
  • Ability to lift/carry up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to sit, use hand to finger coordination; handle or feel objects, tools or controls.
  • Specific vision abilities required: close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
  • Standing, stooping, walking, bending, and climbing are expected physical abilities, with or without accommodations.
  • Routinely works near moving mechanical parts.
  • Exposed to wet, cold and/or humid conditions in both inside and outside environments.
  • Noise level in the work environment is usually at a level where OSHA required hearing protection is required.

Nice To Haves

  • Ammonia Refrigeration experience preferred.
  • Experience in a fast paced, cold, wet production environment.
  • Minimum five years of experience in an industrial maintenance capacity preferred.
  • Food or Medical plant experience is preferred.
  • Knowledge of and compliance with Good Manufacturing Processes (GMP), and food manufacturing best practices.
