About The Position

This position involves constructing, relocating, maintaining, and repairing secondary underground electric distribution lines and systems to support VIPER sites statewide. Responsibilities include installing and maintaining up to 350KW stand-by generators, switchgear, transformers, and related electrical components, as well as performing preventative and corrective maintenance on backup emergency power systems. Work is performed under the supervision of a VIPER Network Engineer and reviewed by NC DOI inspections. The role requires flexibility for long hours, the ability to work independently or with others, and coordination with vendors for supplies and repair parts, with a focus on developing expertise in emergency power systems.

Requirements

  • Considerable knowledge of the standard practices and methods of the electrical trade.
  • Skill in the use and care of tools of the trade.
  • Ability to locate and correct defects in electrical systems and equipment.
  • Ability to read and work from blueprints and sketches.
  • Ability to follow oral and written instructions
  • Must have or be able to acquire valid North Carolina Driver's License
  • High school or General Educational Development diploma AND two (2) years of experience in the performance of the full range of journey level tasks associated with two (2) or more highly complex mechanical or building trades.
  • OR an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Nice To Haves

  • May require current certification by the Environmental Protection Agency as a Type I, II, III or Universal technician as required by Title 40, Code of Federal Regulations Part 82, Subpart F.

Responsibilities

  • Construct, relocate, and maintain secondary underground electric distribution lines and related components to support VIPER sites statewide.

  • Perform preventative and corrective maintenance on stand-by and emergency generators according to the VIPER maintenance schedule.
  • Collaborate with vendors and suppliers to obtain necessary parts, equipment, and materials for system maintenance and repairs.
  • Work independently or with team members to complete tasks, ensuring compliance with NC DOI inspections and developing expertise in backup emergency power systems.
