About The Position

The Maintenance Technician is responsible for maintaining and improving all aspects of building operations across Shields Manufacturing facilities. This role ensures the facility is in excellent working order by performing inspections, repairs, and upgrades while creating a safe and well-maintained environment. The Facilities Technician will contribute to the continued operation of the organization by actively addressing facility needs and maintaining the highest standards of upkeep.

Requirements

  • Minimum of a high school diploma or GED.
  • Valid driver’s license required.
  • Experience operating forklifts, scissor lifts, Polaris vehicles, and hand-powered tools.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and general computer skills in a Windows environment.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • Strong mathematical skills, including the ability to perform basic calculations using whole numbers, fractions, and decimals.
  • Capability to apply common sense to resolve problems and follow instructions in written, oral, or diagram form.
  • Strong focus on achieving desired outcomes and delivering consistent, high-quality results.
  • Exceptional attention to detail with the ability to identify and address discrepancies.
  • Strong teamwork skills, fostering collaboration and productive relationships across teams.
  • Demonstrated ability to perform effectively under pressure, maintaining composure and focus in challenging situations.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct routine inspections of buildings and structures to identify malfunctions and needed repairs.
  • Perform minor electrical maintenance, including tasks such as repairing or replacing fixtures, switches, outlets, bulbs, ballasts, sockets, fuses, and minor appliances, using appropriate tools.
  • Carry out routine HVAC maintenance, including cleaning evaporators and condensers, replacing filters, inspecting belts, and cleaning condensate drains; ensure control settings meet established guidelines.
  • Address minor plumbing issues, such as repairing leaks, replacing faucets, and unclogging drains.
  • Undertake minor painting, carpentry, and masonry tasks, including preparing surfaces and applying finishes (e.g., paint, stains, varnishes) to preserve materials and maintain a safe environment.
  • Reconfigure and arrange furniture, modular offices, and workspaces to meet user needs using tools, dollies, and hand trucks.
  • Paint and prepare surfaces on various structures and equipment, including walls, floors, roofs, and restroom facilities, using appropriate tools and techniques.
  • Solicit bids and quotes from vendors for tasks outside general maintenance requirements.
  • Order necessary parts and supplies while maintaining accurate records of transactions and documents.
  • Accurately complete and submit required logs, forms, and documentation in a timely manner.
  • Perform inspections of related records to ensure completion, accuracy, and compliance.
