About The Position

Perfetti Van Melle is seeking a passionate and enthusiastic Maintenance Technician to join their growing team. The Maintenance Technician is responsible for maintaining the quality and integrity of high-speed packaging and end-of-line automation equipment, ensuring it is in good, safe condition and operating order. This role involves performing routine and extensive preventative maintenance and repair procedures on electrical and mechanical systems. The technician will also provide technical support and hands-on guidance to supervisors and production department resources, and support safety, continuous improvement, and other lean manufacturing projects.

Requirements

  • 5 years of proven experience in the electrical/electronics, mechanical, hydraulic, and pneumatic fields.
  • Ability to demonstrate high proficiency in electrical/electronics, mechanical, hydraulic, and pneumatic fields.
  • Prior work experience in a manufacturing facility.
  • General safety, lockout/tagout, HAZMAT, scissor lift safety, electrostatic discharge awareness, foreign object damage awareness, and quality system awareness.
  • A thorough knowledge of electrical/electronic components and equipment including the use of special instruments for diagnostic purposes.
  • Ability to read and interpret drawings, sketches, O.E.M. instructions and specifications.
  • Mechanically inclined with great problem-solving skills.
  • Comfortable with working in a team environment and/or independently.
  • Ability to effectively manage time.
  • Organized with attention to detail.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills for training and supporting other departments.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced and stressful environment.
  • Operating knowledge of and experience with personal computers and peripherals.
  • Ability to wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) including Safety Shoes, Safety Glasses, Hearing Protection, Uniform, Hairnet, Beard net, mask, and use breathing protection devices when required.
  • Ability to stand, walk, use hands to finger, handle or feel, reach with hands and arms, occasionally sit, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, and crawl, talk, hear, and smell.
  • Ability to occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and occasionally push/pull 350-pound carts with wheels.
  • Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, and peripheral vision.
  • Employees must be flexible in learning and working in other job functions.

Nice To Haves

  • Certificate in applied electrical maintenance and/or Associates Degree in Electronics.
  • Prior food manufacturing experience.
  • Valid driver's license and ability to travel between facilities.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain the quality and integrity of high-speed packaging and end-of-line automation equipment.
  • Perform routine and extensive preventative maintenance and repair procedures on electrical and mechanical systems.
  • Provide technical support and hands-on guidance to supervisors and production department resources.
  • Support safety, continuous improvement, and other lean manufacturing projects.
  • Troubleshoot, identify causes of breakdowns, and repair mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and electrical/electronic equipment.
  • Plan and perform work requiring a thorough knowledge of electrical/electronic and mechanical theories and principles.
  • Install, start up, and shut down equipment in accordance with company safety procedures and OSHA requirements.
  • Advise operators and line mechanics of operation procedures and requirements for working safely with electrical/mechanical equipment.
  • Inform management and line mechanics of potential electrical/mechanical problems and inherent dangers.
  • Troubleshoot and repair electrical equipment/systems and control circuits, including Three Phase Motors and Programmable Logical Controls (PLC).
  • Perform electrical and mechanical installation of new and current equipment, including frequency drives, HMI, pneumatic, hydraulic, and compressed air.
  • Perform preventive maintenance procedures on mechanical equipment, inspecting belts, checking fluid levels, replacing filters, greasing bearings, etc.
  • Operate a computer which controls and monitors mechanical equipment and utility systems.
  • Maintain work area and equipment in a clean and orderly condition, following GMP and safety regulations.
  • Complete daily, weekly, and monthly checklists on building equipment maintenance procedures and maintain records.
  • Support high speed flow wrappers, vertical baggers, and pick-and-place robots.
  • Ensure all equipment is mechanically & electrically maintained by following a CMMS preventative maintenance program and properly documented.
  • Participate and ensure department is compliant with 5S and ISO audit regulations.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Maintenance Supervisor or Maintenance Lead.
