About The Position

The Maintenance Technician is responsible for performing skilled and semi-skilled work associated with the maintenance and repair of the college’s facilities and grounds. This role participates in the repair and maintenance of college equipment and vehicles, installs, maintains, or repairs electrical and plumbing systems, and participates in grounds maintenance activities. The technician will also maintain fire alarms, sprinkler, and security systems, assist with carpentry and renovation projects, and respond to emergency repair requests. The position requires a valid driver's license and may involve occasional travel to other campus locations.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of the tools, equipment, materials and practices of building and grounds maintenance
  • Knowledge of safety policies and procedures
  • Knowledge of plumbing, electrical or HVAC system maintenance and repair
  • Skill in the operation of computers and job-related software programs
  • Skill in interpersonal relations and in dealing with the public
  • Oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to lift, push and carry heavy items
  • Ability to read, interpret and apply construction plans, specifications and blueprints
  • Must have a valid driver’s license
  • A high school diploma or equivalent and One (1) year of experience in a skilled trade or building maintenance.

Nice To Haves

  • Two years working experience in a large-scale maintenance facility or three years’ experience in a skilled trade which would have enabled the applicant to acquire the necessary knowledge, skills and abilities to perform maintenance duties.

Responsibilities

  • Participates in the repair and maintenance of college equipment and vehicles using a variety of tools, materials, and equipment while maintaining required records, logs, and electronic work order system.
  • Installs, maintains or repairs electrical and plumbing systems with associated hardware.
  • Participates in grounds maintenance activities, including installing and maintaining landscaping, applying herbicides and pesticides, and maintaining parking lots.
  • Maintains fire alarms, sprinkler, and security systems.
  • Assists with carpentry and renovation projects as assigned.
  • Responds to emergency requests for repairs.
  • Other duties as assigned.
