About The Position

Westminster Cracker Company, a food manufacturer in Rutland, Vermont, is seeking a Maintenance Technician to join their five-person maintenance crew. This role involves performing preventive maintenance, diagnosing and repairing equipment failures, and ensuring the smooth operation of production and packaging machinery. The position offers a defined career path from Level I to Level II, with opportunities for further advancement. The company emphasizes safety and adherence to food plant requirements.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Technical training in industrial maintenance, mechanical, or electrical systems, OR at least one year of industrial maintenance experience.
• Ability to safely use hand and power tools.
• Ability to read procedures, checklists, and equipment drawings.
• Willingness to prioritize safety and speak up about unsafe conditions.
• Availability to work the assigned shift, including overtime and weekends as required by production needs.
• For Level II: 3+ years of industrial maintenance experience.
• For Level II: Ability to troubleshoot to the failed component and repair without direction, including motor, sensor, and drive replacement.
• For Level II: Comfort being the only technician on duty during second or third shift.

Nice To Haves

• Food manufacturing or other GMP environment experience.
• Experience with ovens, sheeting or lamination lines, or pneumatic conveying.
• Welding and fabrication skills.

Responsibilities

• Perform scheduled preventive maintenance, including inspection, lubrication, adjustment, and component replacement.
• Record maintenance activities in the maintenance system.
• Diagnose and repair mechanical, pneumatic, hydraulic, and basic electrical failures on production and packaging equipment.
• Respond to production calls and communicate estimated restoration times to the Production Supervisor.
• Apply lockout/tagout procedures for all maintenance tasks.
• Adhere to food safety requirements, including the use of food-grade lubricants, tool and parts control, and post-repair cleanup.
• Maintain the organization of the shop, tools, and critical spares.
• Train newer technicians (Level II).
• Participate in the on-call rotation (Level II).
