About The Position

The City of Greeley is seeking a Maintenance Technician or Water Systems Technician l – IV to join the Wastewater Collections team in the Water and Sewer Department. The Technician will report to the Crew Supervisor I - Wastewater Collections and will assist in the routine maintenance of sanitary sewer lines and other related equipment and facilities. The Maintenance Technician will inspect and perform necessary repairs and perform preventive maintenance necessary to maintain sanitary sewer lines. The position requires field work involving working in confined spaces, excavation trenches, and near the operation of heavy equipment. Specific tasks may involve operating various equipment, keeping logs on corrections, ordering, and installing replacement parts, etc. Stand-by duty for emergency call-in is rotated among division employees.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent (required for licensure in the State of Colorado)
  • Basic understanding and knowledge of working with methods, materials and equipment used in utility maintenance work (e.g., metal detectors, measuring instruments, pick, shovels, probe rods, dump trucks, and heavy equipment, etc.).
  • Must be available and able to commit to being on-call as part of a rotational schedule, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
  • Must be willing to respond to after-hour emergencies within 45 minutes, even if not on call.
  • Current Class A Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) or the ability to obtain within six (6) to nine (9) months of hire. (For Maintenance Technician)
  • One (1) month of related experience. (For Water System Technician I)
  • Class A Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) required. (For Water System Technician I)
  • Wastewater Collection System Operator 1 Certification. (For Water System Technician I)
  • Two (2) years of related experience. (For Water Systems Technician II)
  • Class A Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) required. (For Water Systems Technician II)
  • Wastewater Collection System Operator 2 Certification. (For Water Systems Technician II)
  • Three (3) years of related experience. (For Water Systems Technician III)
  • Class A Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) required. (For Water Systems Technician III)
  • Wastewater Collection System Operator 3 Certification. (For Water Systems Technician III)
  • Four (4) years of related experience. (For Water Systems Technician IV)
  • Class A Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) required. (For Water Systems Technician IV)
  • Wastewater Collection System Operator 4 Certification. (For Water Systems Technician IV)
  • Any combination of related education, experience, certifications and licenses that will result in a candidate successfully performing the essential functions of the job
  • Possession of a valid driver’s license.

Nice To Haves

  • Prior water, sewer, or streets maintenance related experience preferred.
  • Prior mechanical experience is preferred.
  • Prior experience and comfortability working in a heavy traffic environment preferred.
  • Flagger or Traffic Control certification.
  • Confined Space Entry training or certification.

Responsibilities

  • Perform routine inspection, maintenance, repair, cleaning, and rehabilitation of sanitary sewer mains, service lines, manholes, lift stations, and related wastewater collection system infrastructure.
  • Conduct preventive maintenance activities to improve system reliability and reduce emergency repairs.
  • Inspects and performs necessary repairs and preventative maintenance on sanitary sewer lines.
  • Perform confined space entry, excavation work, traffic control, and other field activities while following established safety procedures.
  • Operates various equipment.
  • Creates and maintains logs on maintenance, corrections, ordering of supplies, and installation of replacement parts.
  • Participates in stand-by duty for emergency call-ins on a rotational basis.
  • Complete work orders, inspection reports, maintenance records, equipment logs, and related documentation utilizing CityWorks or other computerized maintenance management systems.
  • Maintain tools, vehicles, equipment, and work areas in a safe, clean, and serviceable condition.
  • Communicate effectively with coworkers, contractors, supervisors, and the public while providing excellent customer service.
  • Participate in departmental safety meetings and required training programs.
  • Participate in an on-call rotation and respond to emergency callouts after normal working hours, weekends, and holidays.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
