Maintenance Technician - Skilled Roving
About The Position
Hornig Companies seeks a full-time skilled roving Maintenance Technician to respond to work orders, prepare units for new move-ins and perform preventive maintenance throughout Hornig Companies' Minneapolis/ St. Paul locations. This role involves diagnosing, troubleshooting, and repairing various apartment maintenance issues including plumbing, electrical, sheetrock, appliance repair, and building construction. The technician will also provide expertise on building repair, focusing on preventing future maintenance concerns in historical and aging buildings, and communicate with residents in a caring and compassionate manner while upholding Fair Housing guidelines.
Requirements
- Mechanical, plumbing and light electrical aptitude
- Specials Boiler’s License, or the ability to obtain within 6 months
- Ability and willingness to learn
- Ability to lift up to 75 pounds occasionally and 20 pounds frequently
- Valid Driver’s License and meet car insurance requirements
- Ability to work rotating on-call schedule
- Ability to operate applicable phone applications for work orders, time allocation, and information look-up
- Ability to stand, lift and bend for up to 8 hours (with breaks) in hot/cold and wet environments
- Ability to work independently as well as part of a team
- 8+ years maintenance experience required

Responsibilities
- Diagnose, trouble-shoot, and repair apartment maintenance issues such as plumbing issues (leaking faucets, toilets, etc.), repair or replace blinds and closet doors, low-risk electrical repair or replacement of lighting, ceiling fans, and smoke detectors, minor sheetrock repair and repair of building construction (broken windows, locks), minor caulking of tubs and sinks, and minor appliance repair.
- Provide expertise on building repair, concentrating on preventing future maintenance concerns in historical and aging buildings.
- Communicate with residents regarding repairs in a caring, compassionate manner that upholds Hornig Companies' customer service reputation as well as Fair Housing guidelines.
