About The Position

Using excellent customer service skills, establishes and maintains effective working relationships with other employees, officials, and all members of the general public. Operates a motor vehicle to assist in carrying out the business of the department and the City. Works under the supervision of the Lead Plumber. May supervise support personnel, or other part-time or temporary staff as assigned. Repairs and maintains plumbing and mechanical equipment at City Owned facilities; make minor repairs independently and works as a crew member on larger projects; identifies building problems and appropriate method of repair. Performs a variety of repair and maintenance tasks, including the repair and replacement of plumbing, fixtures, gas, chiller and hydronic heating systems. Perform plumbing, gas and other mechanical installations and remodels; works from plans and blueprints and from verbal instructions; utilizes a variety of hand and power tools. Inspects mechanical equipment for defects and make necessary repairs. Performs some custodial duties as assigned. Performs routine plumbing and mechanical inspections for preventative maintenance. Performs routine maintenance on motors, electrical problems, carpentry, plumbing, heating, air conditioning, boilers, and other related mechanical equipment. Operates a wide range of vehicles and motorized equipment, including but not limited to: backhoe, water truck, bobcat, and forklift Attendance at work is an essential function of this position. NON-ESSENTIAL DUTIES: Serves as a member of various employee committees, as assigned. Assists other personnel of Building Maintenance as needed. Requirements

  • This position is subject to the City's Drug and Alcohol-Free Workplace Program. This includes: pre-employment testing, post-accident testing, random testing, reasonable suspicion testing, return-to-duty testing, and follow-up testing.
  • Extensive background checks required.
  • A pre-employment physical and or drug/alcohol test is required for this position.
  • Graduation from high school or GED equivalent, and Two (2) years of experience in plumbing and maintenance fields.
  • Valid New Mexico's driver's license with acceptable driving record for the past three years.
  • Must possess or have the ability to obtain New Mexico State Journeyman Plumber and Journeyman Gas fitter licenses (JPG) within one (1) year of date of hire.
  • Knowledge of Uniform Plumbing and Mechanical Codes and Standards.
  • Must possess strong computer skills.
