About The Position

Under general supervision of a Recreation Services Supervisor, this position performs a variety of manual and semi-skilled work in the maintenance and repair of grounds, facilities, buildings and/or landscape areas that are part of the Recreation Services. The Maintenance Technician is assigned to a variety of areas within the division, such as Parks, Landscape, and Right of Way areas.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or equivalent preferred.
  • Minimum three (3) years previous experience in general maintenance.
  • Must have excellent customer service skills.
  • Must obtain Arizona Class A CDL within six (6) months of hire date.
  • Must possess a valid Arizona State Applicators license (Turf and Ornamental & Right of Way Categories) or obtain within 12 months of hire.
  • May be required to successfully complete an extensive Police background check for citation writing prior to employment.
  • Night, evening, weekend and split shifts may be required.
  • Knowledge of machinery, equipment and tools necessary for maintaining assigned areas
  • Knowledge of basic preventive maintenance on assigned equipment; occupational hazards and safety precautions
  • Knowledge of common hand and power tools.
  • Skill in following oral and written instructions
  • Skill in operating and working around moving equipment
  • Ability to follow safety practices and recognize hazards
  • Ability to utilize public relations techniques in responding to inquiries and complaints
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with coworkers and public.
  • Must possess ability to perform manual labor for extended periods of time, perform repetitive lifting, climbing ladders, stooping, bending, and twisting and capable of lifting 50 pounds without assistance frequently with a maximum of 51 to 100 pounds with assistance

Responsibilities

  • Operate wood chippers, mowers, trimmers in the care and maintenance of assigned areas
  • Use and maintenance of hand and power tools.
  • Help maintain public facilities and grounds; pick up trash, debris and tree limbs; trim bushes, trees, and shrubs; maintain lawns and flower beds in a trimmed, weed-free manner; clean up and tear down after special events.
  • Perform minor and preventive maintenance and repairs on a variety of assigned equipment; maintain irrigation systems; sweep sidewalks and parking lots; rake weeds and grass; perform snow removal duties; perform safety inspections on recreational facilities and equipment.
  • Transport waste debris to transfer station for proper disposal.
  • Assist in the set-up, preparation and clean-up for special events
  • Analyze operational problems and make recommendations to correct or improve procedures
  • Keep records, files, logs, ledgers, etc. of activities in order to provide accurate documentation of work performed or information that can easily be retrieved
  • Serves as a representative of the City of Prescott
  • Other duties as assigned.
