About The Position

The Maintenance Technician III (Tech 3) role is a leadership-driven position focused on conveyor maintenance. This role requires mechanical expertise, a strong understanding of system reliability, and the ability to lead investigations, drive improvements, and ensure safety protocols are followed. The Tech 3 will serve as the primary mechanical authority for various conveyor components, lead preventive maintenance efforts, and contribute to site-wide optimization projects. This position also involves technical leadership, clear communication, and fostering a positive team environment.

Requirements

  • Mechanical expertise on conveyor systems (Spirals, Sorters, MDRs, belts, merges, diverts, accumulation zones).
  • Ability to lead root-cause investigations.
  • Proficiency in executing complex mechanical repairs.
  • Strong understanding of preventive maintenance (PM) standards and execution.
  • Ability to analyze PM data.
  • Skill in developing and refining PM procedures.
  • Experience training other technicians.
  • Ability to identify inefficiencies and mechanical weak points.
  • Experience leading improvement projects.
  • Collaboration skills with operations teams.
  • Ability to recommend parts, design changes, or process adjustments.
  • Strong communication skills (verbal and written).
  • Ability to create high-quality work orders, shift handoff notes, and CMMS entries.
  • Skill in diagnosing mechanical vs. controls issues.
  • Ability to coordinate with operations during breakdowns.
  • Knowledge of LOTO and all safety protocols.
  • Ability to intervene in unsafe behavior and coach others.
  • Ability to lead or support safety initiatives (toolbox talks, safety walks).
  • Ability to take ownership of shift performance and prioritize tasks.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the primary mechanical authority on Spirals, Sorters, MDRs, belts, merges, diverts, and accumulation zones.
  • Lead root-cause investigations to eliminate repeat failures and improve long-term system reliability.
  • Identify mechanical vulnerabilities across the site and proactively recommend improvements.
  • Drive rapid recovery during breakdowns by coordinating tasks, guiding other techs, and restoring flow efficiently.
  • Execute complex mechanical repairs with precision, ensuring equipment returns to optimal performance.
  • Set the standard for PM quality, ensuring all tasks are completed with zero missed items.
  • Analyze PM data to identify patterns, emerging risks, and areas needing redesign or adjustment.
  • Champion PM accuracy (95%+) and hold the team accountable to the same standard.
  • Develop and refine PM procedures to improve clarity, efficiency, and effectiveness.
  • Train other Techs on equipment behavior, wear indicators, and proper PM execution.
  • Actively seek out inefficiencies, recurring jams, and mechanical weak points across the conveyor system, Sorters, Spirals.
  • Lead small improvement projects focused on uptime, jam reduction, and equipment reliability.
  • Collaborate with operations to identify workflow issues and propose mechanical solutions.
  • Recommend parts, design changes, or process adjustments that enhance system performance.
  • Track recurring issues and drive long-term corrective actions, not just short-term fixes.
  • Provide clear, actionable communication to operations, maintenance leadership, and controls teams.
  • Deliver high-quality work orders, shift handoff notes, and CMMS entries that support decision-making.
  • Reduce unnecessary escalations by accurately diagnosing mechanical vs. controls symptoms.
  • Coordinate with operations during breakdowns to manage expectations and maintain safe workflow.
  • Serve as the go-to resource for technical questions from junior technicians.
  • Model uncompromising adherence to LOTO and all safety protocols.
  • Intervene immediately when unsafe behavior is observed and coach others toward safer habits.
  • Lead or support toolbox talks, safety walks, and hazard-spotting initiatives.
  • Promote a culture where safety is prioritized over speed or convenience.
  • Take full ownership of shift performance, ensuring uptime meets or exceeds site targets.
  • Prioritize tasks effectively during high-volume periods or multiple simultaneous breakdowns.
  • Guide other Techs through troubleshooting steps, PM tasks, and repair strategies.
  • Maintain a calm, solution-focused presence during high-pressure situations.
  • Demonstrate readiness to step into lead-level responsibilities when required.
  • Build strong working relationships with operations, controls, and leadership teams.
  • Set the tone for professionalism, reliability, and accountability within the maintenance team.
  • Encourage a positive, collaborative environment where technicians feel supported and challenged.
