Position Purpose: Inspects, maintains, repairs and installs mechanical, electromechanical, pneumatic and/or hydraulic equipment at plant and/or pump stations. Is fully qualified to perform the most complex functions and may lead the work of others.

Requirements

  • High school or GED with the ability to read, write and comprehend English (operational, process, safety and quality instructions) and be able to carry out verbal and written instructions.
  • At least five years experience in a related position in a similar environment with ability to comprehend complex specifications, blueprints and manuals.
  • Steel fabrication and welding experience may be required if necessary at site.
  • Ability to perform basic mathematical calculations.
  • Vocational training and mechanical aptitude required, with the ability to read, interpret and record data from meters, gauges, scales, panels, computer consoles and other equipment.
  • Must demonstrate proficiency in the care and use of all site specific, facility required PPE (Personal Protection Equipment), including respirators, gas detectors, confined space equipment, etc.)
  • Must consistently demonstrate the ability to perform all assigned tasks in an organized, accurate and timely manner.
  • Must demonstrate ability to efficiently maintain, install and repair any equipment which may include progressive cavity pumps, centrifuges, engines, generators, valves, bearings, seals, gates, mixers, gearboxes, conveyors, blowers, dryers, chemical feed, odor control, disinfection equipment, vacuum filters and belt presses.
  • Must have the ability to diagnose problems regardless of complexity, troubleshoot mechanical, electro-mechanical, hydraulic or pneumatic equipment and take corrective action within policy and procedure limitations.
  • Good verbal and written communication skills are necessary.
  • Must have ability to operate Computer Maintenance Management System (software).
  • Must demonstrate ability to work in a team environment and willingness to assume additional or new responsibilities readily.
  • Minimum water/wastewater license as required by regulatory agencies at site.
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license (commercial license and heavy equipment operator license is desirable) and a safe driving record.
  • Employee Orientation, Departmental Operating Procedures, Safety, OSHA and Quality Training.
  • HAZWOPER (Hazardous Waste Operations and Emergency Response)
  • Obtain or maintain HVAC, Electrician’s, Plumber’s or other trade License if assigned to that area.

Responsibilities

  • Inspects and performs mechanical, electrical, hydraulic or pneumatic troubleshooting to determine repairs needed regardless of complexity.
  • Estimates time and material costs for assigned projects.
  • Dismantles equipment to gain access to and repairs defective parts using hand tools, power tools and precision measuring and testing devices.
  • May fabricate devices and assemblies from steel.
  • May weld, thread pipe and solder using gas and electric equipment.
  • Re-assembles and tests equipment ensuring safe and efficient operating condition is restored.
  • Inspects flow meters, gauges, flow ratios, pressures and related controls on instrument panels, computer terminals and programmable logic control units and diagnoses basic operational problems.
  • Takes corrective action per procedure in the assigned area.
  • Verifies and reports suspected malfunctions and variances to the supervisor.
  • Prepares work orders either manually or from a CMMS system as required and prepares work related reports, procurement requisitions, charts, graphs and data submittal requirements in an accurate and timely manner.
  • Performs preventative maintenance, lubrication and minor adjustments on machines and related equipment which may include pumps, engines, centrifuges, generators, valves, gates, mixers, conveyors, blowers, dryers, chemical feed and odor control, vacuum filters and belt presses.
  • Promptly reports any operational problems with machines or equipment needing warranty or outside work to supervisor.
  • Performs instrument calibration for portable meters including, but not limited to dissolved oxygen, pH, H2S, percent oxygen, lower explosive limit.
  • Performs facility maintenance and repair and may replace or install damaged glass, windows, doors, partitions, ceiling or floor tile, door locks, carpet, and/or paint.
  • May assist with maintaining parts, spares and maintenance inventory.
  • May assist in other areas of the plant as directed.
  • May assist with orienting or training new or less experienced Maintenance personnel.
