About The Position

Under direct supervision, the Maintenance Technician I is an entry-level position responsible for conducting machine setup, troubleshooting, repairs, and preventive maintenance service with basic efficiency. Performs duties under the direction of the Maintenance Manager and Leads. This role ensures the operation of machinery and mechanical equipment by completing preventive maintenance requirements on engines, motors, pneumatic tools, conveyor systems, and production machines, following diagrams, sketches, operations manuals, manufacturer's instructions, and engineering specifications, and troubleshooting malfunctions. The technician will locate sources of problems by observing mechanical and electrical devices, listening for problems, and using precision measuring and testing instruments. They will remove defective parts by dismantling devices, using hoists, cranes, and hand and power tools, and examining the form and texture of parts. Adjustments to functional parts and control instruments will be made using hand tools, levels, plumb bobs, and straightedges. Downtime will be controlled by informing production workers of routine preventive maintenance techniques and monitoring compliance. Repair parts will be fabricated using machine shop instrumentation and equipment. The role also involves maintaining equipment, parts, and supplies inventories by checking stock, anticipating needs, placing and expediting orders, and verifying receipt. Maintenance resources will be conserved by using equipment and supplies as needed. Mechanical maintenance information will be provided by answering questions and requests, and reports will be prepared by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing information and trends. Technical knowledge will be maintained by attending educational workshops, reviewing technical publications, and establishing personal networks. Continuity among work teams will be maintained by documenting and communicating actions, irregularities, and continuing needs. A safe and clean working environment will be maintained by complying with procedures, rules, and regulations. The position contributes to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed. Additionally, building, lighting, and plumbing repairs for the facility will be performed as needed. Other duties may be assigned.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED).
  • 1 – 2 years of related experience or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Valid driver’s license.
  • Knowledgeable in the use of a variety of hand and power tools.
  • Ability to read a limited number of two- and three-syllable words and to recognize similarities and differences between words and between series of numbers.
  • Ability to print and speak simple sentences.
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions.
  • Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.
