About The Position

Maintains and repairs mechanical systems, boiler systems, water plant and lift station. Assembles, installs, and repairs pipes, fittings, and fixtures of heating, water, and drainage systems. This role also includes security patrols, grounds maintenance, and general upkeep of school buildings and grounds.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED)
  • Six months to one year related experience and/or training required, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Will be required to be on-call after training is completed. Must respond to on-call emergencies within 15 minutes.
  • Mechanical aptitude.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to calculate figures and amounts.
  • Professional ethics, tact, and courtesy in all dealings with staff, vendors, parents, and the community.
  • Respects the teachings of the gospel of Jesus Christ in private, personal, and public life.
  • Commitment to the mission of the Roman Catholic Church in Native American education.
  • Sensitivity to, and appreciation of Native American people and their cultures.
  • Ability to serve as an appropriate role model for students.
  • Valid Montana driver's license required.
  • Low pressure boiler license required (will provide in-house training).
  • UST Operator Certification Class C required.
  • UST Operator Certification Class “B” required (for Maintenance Technician II).

Nice To Haves

  • Water & wastewater license (3A, 4B, 4C) preferred.
  • Universal refrigerant practices license preferred.
  • Forklift Certification preferred (for Maintenance Technician II).

Responsibilities

  • Assembles and installs valves, pipe fittings, and pipes composed of metals, such as iron, steel, brass, and lead, and nonmetals, such as glass, vitrified clay, and plastic.
  • Fills pipe system with water or air and reads pressure gauges to determine whether system is leaking.
  • Installs and repairs plumbing fixtures such as sinks, commodes, bathtubs, water heaters, hot water tanks, garbage disposal units, dishwashers, and water softeners.
  • Repairs and maintains plumbing by replacing washers in leaky faucets, mending burst pipes, and opening clogged drains.
  • Maintains, repairs, or replaces components of mechanical equipment, water, sewer, heating, furnaces, and boiler systems.
  • Routinely checks possible trouble areas and repairs or replaces any abnormal equipment or conditions.
  • Tests water in the water plant.
  • Patrols buildings and grounds at Pretty Eagle daily in the morning and evening.
  • Examines doors, windows, and gates to determine that they are secure.
  • Warns violators of rule infractions, such as loitering, smoking, or carrying forbidden articles, and apprehends or expels persons engaging in suspicious or criminal acts.
  • Inspects equipment and machinery to ascertain if tampering has occurred.
  • Watches for and reports irregularities such as fire hazards, leaking pipes, and security doors left unlocked.
  • Observes departing personnel to guard against theft of company property.
  • Sounds alarm or calls police or fire department by telephone in case of fire or presence of unauthorized persons.
  • Permits authorized persons to enter property.
  • Records data such as property damage, unusual occurrences, and malfunctioning of machinery or equipment, for use of supervisory staff.
  • Guards school buildings, grounds, and property against theft, vandalism, trespassing and all illicit acts during shift and during sports events and other activities.
  • Mows, trims, and waters all lawns. Trims hedges and weeds around all buildings.
  • Maintains all lawn equipment to include weed eaters and lawn mowers.
  • Removes weeds, and rakes and disposes of leaves and refuse.
  • Maintains flower beds around buildings.
  • Maintains sidewalks, driveways, and basketball courts by sweeping and spraying gravel back into the playground.
  • Shovels sidewalks and steps on each building wing during the winter and spring months.
  • Assures horses, cows, and dogs are not on the school grounds.
  • Picks up all garbage and empties into outside garbage cans.
  • Keeps all work areas clean and organized.
