About The Position

First Quality is a family-owned company founded over 35 years ago, with a significant presence in the personal care and household products industry. The company operates multiple manufacturing campuses across the U.S. and Canada. This specific role is for the First Quality Baby Products facility in Macon, Georgia. The Maintenance Technician I is responsible for maintaining, troubleshooting, repairing, and adjusting all mechanical equipment, machinery, and components, with a focus on forklifts, SGVs, and jockey trucks.

Requirements

  • Completion of all required maintenance training and assessments.
  • Proven experience as a forklift mechanic, SGV maintenance, Jockey tuck maintenance or similar role in a manufacturing or industrial setting.
  • Flexibility to work on-call hours as needed.
  • Standard mechanical knowledge of all machinery, equipment, and components.
  • Standard knowledge of pneumatics and hydraulics.
  • Standard knowledge of product specifications, quality specifications, goals, efficiency, scrap, and production.
  • Good communication and analytical skills.
  • Ability to use all measuring tools, micrometers, vernier calipers, etc.
  • Ability to work in a team oriented environment.
  • Ability to run the equipment, hand tools, and power tools.
  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Three years of industrial experience or equivalent required.
  • Walk / stand 100% of time during a 12–hour shift.
  • Occasional stooping, bending, kneeling, squatting, crawl throughout shift.
  • Occasional climbing and reaching into machines to fix jams.
  • Occasional reaching overhead during shift.
  • Frequent pushing and pulling with arms throughout the shift, including materials requiring up to 75 pounds of force to maneuver.
  • Frequent lifting or carrying of 10 - 20 lbs but occasional lifting/carrying which could including a two person lift of 100 lbs. from floor to waist, waist to shoulder, and shoulder to overhead.
  • Constant use of hands and occasional use of foot control.
  • Constant light and firm grasping with hands throughout shift.
  • Operation of cranes, hoists, hand trucks, roll manipulators, powered industrial trucks throughout shift.
  • Continuous housekeeping by sweeping and organizing floor and work area.
  • Occasional climbing of steps/ladders.

Nice To Haves

  • Technical or vocational school training relating to mechanics is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Observes all safety rules and uses the proper safety equipment at all times.
  • Follows necessary GMP, FDA, and ISO regulations.
  • Perform routine maintenance and inspections on forklifts and other material handling equipment such as SGVs, jockey trucks etc. to ensure they are in safe and efficient working condition.
  • Troubleshoots and analyzes mechanical and operational issues on all equipment and takes required corrective action to resolve these issues.
  • Operates all machines so that maintenance, changeovers, and adjustments can be tested when complete.
  • Maintains a clean and orderly work area.
  • Performs preventive/predictive maintenance checks and inspections of assigned equipment and reports findings promptly.
  • Provide training and guidance to equipment operators on proper use and care of forklifts.
  • Attends all training seminars provided by the company when applicable.
  • Completes paperwork correctly and submits in a timely fashion.
  • Performs other duties as necessary when directed to do so.
