About The Position

Performs difficult general maintenance work on park amenities, grounds, and facilities. May be assigned intermittent supervisory responsibilities involving small work crews.

Requirements

Skills in planning, organizing, and directing crews, operation of trucks, tractors, mowers, chainsaws, forklift, bobcat, boom truck, concrete tools and other equipment used in park maintenance.
Skills in reading and understanding construction blueprints.
Knowledge of general park maintenance procedures.
Knowledge of department rules and regulations.
Ability to work flexible hours, which will include evenings, weekends, and holidays.
Ability to communicate effectively with subordinates and the general public.
Ability to follow oral and/or written instructions.
Must attend a work release supervisor training class annually.
Operates a variety of equipment used in routine maintenance, including mowers, trucks, tractors, chainsaws, forklift, bobcat, boom truck and other equipment used in the maintenance of parks.
High school diploma or equivalent required.
One or more years of prior experience required to provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
All applicants must pass a drug screening and criminal background check prior to employment.

Nice To Haves

Valid Class A Commercial Driver’s license (CDL) preferred.
There may be times when use of personal vehicle may be required.

Responsibilities

Operates equipment such as mowers, trucks, tractors, chainsaws, forklift, bobcat, boom truck and other equipment used in the maintenance of parks.
Installs new equipment and amenities.
Repairs and renovates all existing amenities, facilities, and grounds.
Performs general construction work on new facilities and renovation of existing with primary focus on concrete.
Performs minor electrical, plumbing and welding.
Secures all park facilities and buildings as necessary.
Prepares material lists and order supplies for work projects.
Performs inspections of park facilities.
Assists in delivery of equipment for city sponsored events and projects.
May be required to work with or supervise inmates.
Performs all other related duties as assigned.
