About The Position

A Maintenance Technician Apprentice receives classroom and on-the-job training in the maintenance and repair of electrical or mechanical equipment in a water or wastewater treatment plant or pumping station. This role involves no supervisory duties and incumbents work under close supervision. Employees work a rotating shift, including evenings, nights, weekends, holidays, and may be required to be on call. The work environment can include exposure to chemicals, dust, fumes, extreme temperatures, noxious odors, and moving equipment. The role requires regular moderate physical exertion, with occasional strenuous exertion for repairing large or hard-to-reach equipment. This is a three-year apprenticeship program.

Requirements

  • Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of a GED certificate.
  • Six months of experience in mechanical or electrical maintenance and repair work may be substituted for each year of the high school or GED requirement.
  • A valid Maryland Class C Noncommercial driver's license, or an equivalent out-of-state driver's license acceptable to the Office of Risk Management.
  • Knowledge of common tools and materials used in maintenance and repair work.
  • Ability to read and comprehend technical materials.
  • Ability to pass a mechanical/electrical aptitude test.
  • Ability to follow instructions.
  • Authorization for a Criminal Background Check and/or Fingerprint must be successfully completed for positions of trust.
  • Must upload a copy of your valid driver's license with the application at the time of applying.

  • Provisional driver's license or learner permits are not acceptable.

Responsibilities
